I was doing this all the time a couple of years back. I would be trying to talk to someone while having 3-4 things going on in my mind and what would come out of my mouth was complete nonsense. People would look at me all crazy with that "Should I be concerned or is she really that dumb?" kind of look. haha Sometimes I would even combine words. Like my mind would be trying to decide on the best word to describe something. I might think silver or metallic, but by the time I would try to say the word it would come out as silv-allic.

Anyhow, about that time there were a lot of other medical things happening with me and I finally decided to see a doctor. It took a couple of years for them to pinpoint exactly what was wrong, but now that I know, and know how to treat it, I haven't had any more trouble with my speech getting garbled. I had almost forgotten about the speech thing happening and I know it really upset me at the time.

OP, please do go see a doctor about this. I don't have Bi-polar, so I don't know if it can be a symptom of it or not, but better to be safe than sorry. I ended up finding that I have a mast cell problem and one of the things I am allergic to is wheat. I cut that out of my diet and take butt loads of antihistamines everyday to keep my body from releasing histamine from the mast cells. I am not saying that you have the same problem, but if this is something new and happening enough to bother you, you shouldn't ignore it.

I find that when under a lot of pressure I loose the ability to stay coherent and at its worse the words fail to come out at all I just end up giving out a kind of "BARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" noise like when a cd sticks.

I'm sorry but I literally spit out my pop with that one. Been there, done that. BARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRs Unite!

Check-list is OK , mentally i feel very stable and have done so for roughly 3 years , with some minor lapses . Currently i am on Seroquel which is an anti psychotic and is the only drug so far that has even gone close to working . I googled its side effects and the 3rd one in the less common side effects may be a hint .

If any of the following side effects occur while taking quetiapine, check with your doctor immediately:

More common
cold sweats
dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
sleepiness or unusual drowsiness

Less common
Black, tarry stools
blurred vision
changes in patterns and rhythms of speech
chest pain
fever, muscle aches, or sore throat
inability to move the eyes
inability to sit still
increased blinking or spasms of the eyelid
lip smacking or puckering
loss of balance control
mask-like face

In all honesty periods of garbled speech for me is a small price to pay for the quality of life i now have . Well thats if my medication is the cause .

Speak to your GP first and ask his or her recommendations as to a specialist.

Oddly enough i am out of medication tomorrow so a visit to the doctors will be on the cards . The trouble is , a lot of GPs have no idea when it comes to mental illness. And the so called experts in my experience just prescribe different drugs until they hit one that works . In my case they have finally hit upon one that appears to work and i am in no hurry to change or experiment . Luckily for me my medication is not lithium , that stuff truly scares me , almost as much as ECT and thats some scary voodoo right there . My faith in psychologists is sorely tested when the first option is something they use in batterys and the second is electrocuting your brain . Finally i have to thank everyone for their replys , i will post tomorrow after the doctor .

Doctors are just arrogant pricks lmo, who are usually no more intelligent than your average person. Who would even trust them to be able to treat you.

Psychologists are even worse, the second they find out you actually have real mental health issues, they want nothing to do with you. They just want patients that have minor sleeping difficulties, or someone with low intelligence that wants to chat about there petty mummy and daddy issue's for 45 minutes.

But anyway............... You want something done right, you just gotta do it yourself. Western medicine is a joke and complete scam, if you want my honest opinion.
