I Know, I believe we should have sympathised with Russia over our similar circumstances. But I'm not in charge and the government has taken a different route, now it is a really dangerous situation because Russia have decided to back The Argentinean claim. Initially they said Britain should understand because of the Falklands, but we chose to back Ukraine.

So I suppose it's just deserts, but it now means we have put ourselves into a deteriorating situation.[/quote

]British foreign policy stinks...... It's all about screwing them and nibbling away at Russia and its territory. I'm sick of it

If North Korea keeps the US busy also than that would leave European forces to defend themselves against a Russian invasion. l

You can't be serious. The 2nd Division and half a CBG would deal with NK, freeing America to assist Europe if needed. Which it is never going to come to.

England would be wise to place AA systems on the islands.

It would also be a good idea to move a lot of English speaking people there soon. It could come as an unexpected surprise to find out that somehow 30% of the population became Russian speaking last week and now want to "vote" to join the Federation LoL (I jest, before I am asked for a source)

You only kind of jest.

Exactly so in the meantime we have one destroyer, albeit state of the art, but surely it can't deal with the whole Argentine military?

Let's face it if Argentina want to take the Falklands, there's nothing much we could do, and I can't see us using nukes in response.

Maybe ask your cousins to loan you a few of their assets?

This is one of the only times I would back america acting militarily on a foreign country.

In defense of our allies.

Russia is right. The Crimeans DID vote for independence from Kiev. They have every right to go their own way after the west showed the way with the forced dismemberment of Serbia and the creation of Kosovo.

To be honest I wouldn't be upset if the Ruskies station their army in Argentina, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I'm British too, I just think we and the west have pushed against Russia and its sphere of influence (through coloured revolution, Stratfor and NATO) too far

The vote was extremely questionable.

It went down way too fast had no outside oversight etc...

For all the world actually knows it was a complete fraud.

I can't say it was, as I don't have any proof.

But the only proof it was legit is what the Russian gov says.

So I call it 50/50 at best.

But the whole of Ukraine belonged to Moscow, not just Crimea. Lots of Ukranians want out from fighting Russia, but Britain and USA knows what's best for them. We use Ukraine like we used the Germans in the 30's, to weaken the USSR. Like for Germany then, I expect this won't work out well for the Ukranian people, but British and US politicians don't care about the deaths do they?

Using Nukes would be an extreme measure. The Islands are quite heavily defended now and no doubt we have a number of subs in the region.

If they try to invade by sea, we'll probably sink most of their ships before they get there.

Hey guys,

I'm from Argentina. Let me be clear about this, while the government stirs the rhetoric, it is only to take away the eyes of the people from the corruption and the unstoppable fall of our economy. And while many people fall for that rhetoric, most do not. Many of us believe that while claim might have been made, the Referendum was enough. If Kelpers want to stay British, they should be able to be British without interference.

Also, we do not have the military power to make an invasion, not even backed by Russia (by god, never thought I would ever see a day in which we would be aligned with Russia and Iran). We have approximately enough ammunition to last two hours of full war against Chile and you think we would invade the Falklands? C'mon, mates, we know better and we remember enough. We lost 16-18 years old kids in that war, sent by the military junta without training and without equipment. The only thing that actually made a difference at that time was the Air Force, with great pilots, but now technologically obsolete.

Cheers!

Well then, you guys would be ok in the short term.

Good AA systems would stave off bombers longer.

Damn, in the words of Theoden from Lord of the rings "how did it come to this?".

You guys really are in a tight spot down there.

Those bombers are a freaking joke.

I am not the most savvy when it comes to combat airplanes. I just think a POS made in the soviet union in 1961 is not exactly a threat to a modern military like the UK, even with its downsizing.

I mean come on....its half a century old.

If I were argentina I would say no, give me something new. It would be easier if they just shot the 12 pilots and used half of the fuel to burn the crappy relics on the run way.

Thanks for that input, it's always nice to have a perspective from the other side.

Best of luck with your economical situation.

Moscow only had Ukraine because they invaded it in WW2.

You know like Poland easy Germany etc...

It was not Russia's to take or give.

Under Obama...good luck.

You just have to hold out for a couple more years, then this douche will be gone thankfully.

Most Americans would support Britain no doubt.

If this is in the news here, another Obama will not see the oval office next election.

So it is a double edged sword.

I don't want to hope you need our help militarily, but it would help my countrymen vote with their brains not their golden tongue deceived ears.

So is there any spark of hope for you guys, or is it likely to continue long into the future?

Do you have any actually useful potential candidates?

I hate see folks suffer so those in power can live like kings.

Thanks! We have presidential elections in October but, really? No, there is no hope. There is no serious candidate to take us out of this mess. Furthermore, any serious candidate would understand that we have to devalute our currency, we can't keep it up this way and we have to stop just giving out as gifts every resources we have. Devaluation is a pain in the a**, but it is the only way we can climb up of the hole this people have put us in.

All the candidates are far right wing and would most likely sell everything to the private sector without investing in national industry. Recently we had the Vaca Muerta oil discovery. Great, great thing to have, but we can't make use of it due to the lack of extraction technology. What did we do? Instead of investing in our industry, we gave rights of exploitation to Chevron with part of the agreement being secret (and giving rights to Chevron for almost 50% of the income for about 20 years).
That is the story of our last decade, we open thirteen hospitals, but all of them empty without equipment. We buy tanks, we don't have oil nor ammunition. We open up schools, but they don't have desks and teachers dont teach because the government doesn't pay them.

This government will end badly, one way or the other. Things are very, very politiced right now. Either you are with the officialism or you are an enemy (that is the prevalent thought). That puts me as the enemy, which is no fun. And that is part of why the rhetoric regarding the Falklands has gone up. It is not about the oil, because we have enough in our continental lands. It is about them trying to unite the people through poor and false nationalistic propaganda.

Cheers!

I live here in Miami and the best neighbours i had here were Argentinian, they told me the same thing and said Kirchner was a crazy nut that was deflecting from the corruption.
Bottom line is always the people of one country fight against another whilst those that caused it are the biggest cowards and unpatriotic dirt bags who sit at home playing politics.

Can we afford to send an aircraft carrier down to the south Atlantic, when Russia are strengthening their navy in northern Europe?

Its British territory how can we afford not too?

The Argentineans will feel stronger than ever with Russian support. I believe it's only a matter of time now before an invasion.

They are a long way off.

The argies are still using a navy and air force from the 70's

It will be a long while yet before then can acquire and train to use modern equipment.

Right now we have anti ship and anti air defenses on the island that would make any invasion a slaughter.

What it comes down to though is if our moronic government continue with the defense cuts.
