your dreaming if you think the nsa and cia and fbi are going to roll back any of the security measures.
Frankly, judging from the way Americans like to massacre each other and butcher people in far away lands - i think these kinds of laws are nessecary

Please don't think that Americans are doing this, actually Americans
are the victims of these types of abuses of power.

It would be interesting to see this bill pass, and if you are right,
I have similar thoughs, but it would be nice to repeal a very
unconstitutional document that most of Congress never even
read before passing it.

I'm so disappointed in our government (have been for awhile)
but when I listened to a congressman during an interview
the other day who said more or less they don't have time to
read bills anymore before voting on them, I was astonished.
And just when I thought nothing from our government could
surprise me anymore.

I learned awhile back, and also found it astonishing, is that
a lot of bills, congressman are not even allowed to read, before
the vote, they aren't even given a copy of the bill until 30
minutes before voting on it.

I've also learned that a lot of bills are up for a vote to go
to the house floor, when nobody gets to read the bill first.

It just makes me shake my head

We should wipe everything and start with just what the USA founding fathers fought for. Start from there. Just my opinion.

Snippet:

Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) have introduced the Surveillance State Repeal Act that would end the NSA’s unconstitutional domestic spying. I can say without hesitation: this bill is the real deal. “The Patriot Act contains many provisions that violate the Fourth Amendment and have led to a dramatic expansion of our domestic surveillance state,” said Rep. Massie. "Our Founding Fathers fought and died to stop the kind of warrant-less spying and searches that the Patriot Act and the FISA Amendments Act authorize. It is long past time to repeal the Patriot Act and reassert the constitutional rights of all Americans. I am proud to co-sponsor Congressman Pocan’s bill and look forward to working with him on this issue.”

The Bill's page on the congress web site: www.congress.gov...

If you think the emergency Patriot Act has outlived its use back this bill. Call or better yet FAX your congress-critter.

I want to be clear that when I googled this, including googling the bill by name, very few of the main or most popular news channels came up.

Goes to show how "free" the press is.

Do you know how I am starting to see my paranoia or distrust in the government/media grow?

First, there is little mention in CNN/Fox/MSNBC of this bill. I searched each one individually.

Second, the bill will never pass.

Third, my mind actually went to "what if the airplane crash in Europe was engineered to distract the public from the bill and surveillance issues." I even contemplated whether the co-pilot was mk-ultra'ed by the government to crash the plane......

OMG. Probably all false. But that's how little i trust now..

I get the spirit of what you are saying.

And I agree on the Bill of Rights.

But.. the creators of our government also were basically racists and sexists, not to mention classists. Only free, white males could vote really in many cases. Remember that African Americans were not classified as full humans for representation purposes. Many "founding fathers" had lots of slaves and were basically 1%. Sign of the times? Yes. Enlightened Buddhas? No.

Hey, I'm honest about it, at least. I thought oversight would preferable to relying on foreign clandestine services. Apparently, the oversight was subverted as well.

Obama has expanded aspects of the Patriot Act as well-not to mention shredding the FOIA- so seeing neither party is willing to rein them in then dump the Act.

Government snooping has been an issue since electronic "bugs" were invented. They used phone taps and bugs to break the back of the Mafia. Then when there was serious anti-government movement, they spied on those people too. I assume any electronic communications may be monitored, and that somewhere, there's a file about me. I assume that as long as I'm not up to something, the government isn't really interested in what I do or say. But we were warned, "Big Brother is watching you". I'd rather have the Patriot Act, where there's at least an open process, than drive what they're doing, because they can, deeper underground. Simple boredom with my very ordinary life is my best guarantee of privacy. When you go on some government websites, though, they verify you're you by using things they know about you already. And they do know some things. But wait, it's not just them! Any public record can be gathered by anyone for a small fee. Our privacy is vanishing in the electronic age. Consider this, for 50 bucks I can buy a hard drive that holds one trillion byes of information. That kind of power, which anyone can have, is not going away.

Obama wouldn't sign that bill if his life depended on it. He ran on being anti-bush and has turned into bush 2.0.

I have Recently watched a refresh of a Documentary called WHY WE FIGHT

I found this kind of Disturbing which would goes along With the Patriot Act..

as What is Shows is in the Documentary WHY WE FIGHT

"" On October 2002 , The US Congress Passed the Joint Resolution 114 ,
Granting the President the Right to USE Force at his Discretion ""

The next Screen OF THE documentary after a Few Seconds Shows this
With the House of Representatives in the background talking about the bill being passed
as it Looks like a Copy from a VCR/CMR Video As in Recorded when it Happened ..

H J RES 114 : YEA : NAY : PRES :NV

DEMOCRAT : 81 : 126 : 1
