This woman was doing her first 10k after losing 200 pounds!

People talk a lot of crap about those that are overweight, but I'll never knock someone who is working so hard. No one wants to be overweight, no one sets out to be. I don't have a problem with claims of food addiction and believe there are some deep underlying psychological problems involved when a person is this size.

After the race, Mayor Greg Fischer posted a photo to his Facebook page.

It shows two pictures of LMPD Lieutenant Aubrey Gregory, helping race participant Asia Ford cross the finish line at the 10K race.

The mayor added that this is quote "what a compassionate city looks like."

That woman won the race in my opinion, even if she finished last.

Here's a video of her dropping weight. It's not great, but her progress sure is!

I like the story, cop or not. I'm happy someone helped motivate her and supported her.

I love a feel good story.

Thanks for sharing it.

I'm married to a bigger man. I married him like that but he has gained almost 100 pounds since we have been married. He carries it well but I know his heart is strained from it. I've always preferred a bigger guy because well.. I just have. Not because of that...
.... But because I like to feel like I'm protected. Call me old fashioned. I like the brawny paper towel men, calluses and all. Call me weird lol. I watch him struggle daily. He's a damned good worker and doesn't know what lazy is, but I know he is stereotyped by a lot of folks.

He enjoys food. I eat to live and he lives to eat. If he were anywhere near lazy he would have dropped dead years ago. He works on average about 75 hours a week at a saw mill and that is likely what has saved his life so far. He's still young and I know that he wished he were smaller daily. It is what it is though, but I thought I would share because there are a ton of folks who do struggle with this on a daily basis. Not all of them are lazy and genetics does play a role. His entire family is big.

I'm glad this woman is trying to improve herself and I'm also glad that this officer thought enough about her struggle to aid her in this goal. Hopefully this will be the first goal of many for this lady.

Think we should have a forum called "Feel Good News" for threads like these. I'd certainly read it every day.

Good find s&f

Good on her, good on the cop and good on whoever the other person holding her other hand.

She seems to have a good grasp of what it takes...eating right and exercise.

I know several folks that complain nonstop about added weight, yet refuse to try cardio.

I'm a little confused here Domo1. What exactly is the post about, the cop or the woman ? the thread title is about the cop but then you fail to mention him in your post.
Is this a pro-cop thread or a pro-weightloss thread ? Could you please be clear about this.

The post is about both IMO.

It helps to showcase that at the end of the day we are all human, and we are all capable of showing love to one another regardless of our position in society.

The cops should not be helping people in their delusion. She should not have been running a 10K race yet. That is like people cheering on the crazy lady swimming between Florida and Cuba who was getting stung by jellyfish. Hopefully this does not lead to others running a race that they aren't ready for yet. We don't need people dropping dead because of heart attacks.

The cop should tell this woman not to do this kind of stuff again. I suppose if you can't talk stubborn people into listening to reason, you need to help them to safety anyway.

Thanks, Domo1...
We all need a pick-me-up story to remind us the world hasn't completely tanked! This one did it for me. Great story/great pics!

To me it's a feel-good thread, about encouragement and the human spirit. I didn't feel confused, and didn't think about the Title vs. Post in that way, until I read your post. Nice story in any case, doncha think?

It was more a feel good story thread. Mentioning the cop wasn't really motivated by anything other than pointing out that he wasn't a participant or family member.
