ahem. have you ever heard the term; mirror sector?

This is the beginning phases of answers we may see in this kind of science. That is to say there aren't any definitive answers on this specific topic, lots of widely renowned theories, but just that, theories. I just find it entertaining that you have an emotional response to people looking for answers and that were willing to admit we don't know yet, hence the experiments. The way you react to this thread is how I'd expect someone fighting science, first groups that come to mind are the religious ones, on the far end of the spectrum as most of them will humor science as well.
or I could be wrong. Maybe I should heed your advice and declare all exploratory science stupid, after all if we find out that the earth isn't flat than we will have to throw away all our maps.
SO a machine will show that an alternate universe exists. One that has the same planets galaxies numbering in the trillions, ( probably a number that we have not even defined yet ) and they would all exist in the same alinement with same environment. Wow that is just craziness. Science is good. But this is junk science and a waste of time. Now the possibilities of another demention could be there and can and should be investigated. But a Universe of an exact copy is just ludicrous. Now another Universe outside a universe might be a possibility. But parallel, come on get real. Stop smoking that funny stuff. No number exists to try and calculate the possibility of such a thing. Much less a parallel earth itself. But a whole universe. Just stupidity. You talk about science, but use no science to validate any such claims being possible. Just dreams and hope like faith in the fairy tale of a god. All this is probably due to those beliefs that is why i say that. ( where is heaven? where is Hell? Where are these ghosts and spirits? ) This hype is why keeps the dreamer thinking it possible. No evidence. Just impossible math to prove the unlikelihood of it being true which i state and no one has a contrary argument and I am the one that is off. Get a clue. Nothing but a fairy tale the religious propagate. And now some other sheeple follow the belief that it could be.

.....and in the parallel universe, the other Roth 1 says the exact same thing. Some things never change.
Lay off the fluoride.

Cool story bruh. Needz moar research. You seem to have a very limited understanding of how these things work. You may think it sounds crazy but a lot of top physicists seem to disagree with you.

Also... why the hell do you keep mentioning religion? It has absolutely nothing to do with this topic. Are you drunk? Have another, you need it.

People a whole hell of a lot smarter than you or I have theorized that parallel universes could (and probably do) exist.

I'll take their word over the inane ramblings of people on the internet.

they need aa oscillation overthruster! to break thru ..

You're being rude now, they don't need to budget for oscillation overthrusters, and my guess is that they use them all the time.

On a lighter note (in order to laugh to keep from crying as they say) can somebody tell them if they DO contact an alternate universe, can they please ask if people there are freaking out b/c Berenstain Bears is spelled BerenstEin Bears, because we want our books back.

I wonder how many ATS'ers got this reference?

Epic, by the way.

Haha, thanks

I dunno, but alternate universe was certainly one theory floated on that huge thread! (And by more than just me, lol...)

How big is the universe? What are the possibilities of and exact copy of Earth? Now what are the possibilities of an exact copy of everything and everything on it

If the universe is infinite....then the possibility of a duplicate Earth/Earths is a given....obviously.

You imply as if we are vested in this for any other reason than curiosity and embodying the idea leave no rock unturned. Not that it should matter but I am not religious nor would it be relevant if I was. Most mavericks get ridiculed for being dreamers. This like most posts is meant to be taken with a grain of salt as it's in the infancy stages and may have no answers at all. Just find it odd that your so hostile to the idea or search in this manner even existing. As I said before, I personally think your taking to much of an emotional approach to this and I find it odd that you always bring religion into a progressive science thread, a bit out of place. I hope one day you'll be secure enough in your own beliefs that you can one day witness other people playing with new ideas just to play with them and see where it goes and you can say to yourself "hmm, I disagree, and I'm comfortable with that". Until then I hope the blood pressure medication works.

The staggeringly complex LHC ‘atom smasher’ at the CERN centre in Geneva, Switzerland, will be fired up to its highest energy levels ever in a bid to detect - or even create - miniature black holes.

If successful a completely new universe will be revealed – rewriting not only the physics books but the philosophy books too.

It is even possible that gravity from our own universe may ‘leak’ into this parallel universe, scientists at the LHC say.

The experiment is sure to inflame alarmist critics of the LHC, many of whom initially warned the high energy particle collider would spell the end of our universe with the creation a black hole of its own.

But so far Geneva remains intact and comfortably outside the event horizon.

Scientists at Large Hadron Collider hope to make contact with PARALLEL UNIVERSE in days

What?

Just what the hell are they playing at over in Switzerland?

High energy physics to learn more about our universe.

Attempting to create mini black holes?

Yes. But such mini black holes would only exist for a few milliseconds before evaporating. There is no need to worry about anything here. Cosmic rays impacting the moon and Earth have much higher energy densities than the experiment being done at CERN and that's been happening for billions of years well before humanity so none of these mini black holes which nature itself likely creates on a regular basis has killed us all.

SEE: National Geographic - Mini Black Holes Zip Through Earth Every Day?

Nature itself produces far higher energy densities than anything CERN or humanity in general is capable of now or even imagined in the near future.

Attempting to open up parallel universes?

More like, attempting to detect if such parallel universes actual exist based on what models suggest would be detectable if they did. No one at CERN is attempting to "open up a gate to parallel universes".

I am all for discovering new things and appreciate science is relatively still in its infancy, but what happens if this little experiment goes dramatically wrong, it could be the end of everything.

The only people who worry about such an experiment "going wrong" do not really understand the experiment, physics or what is being done here or has been done in high energy physics in the past. That includes sensationalist UK tabloids.

I wouldn't go to such tabloid sites for ANY credible story on science, they almost always get it wrong or exaggerate research for clicks.

There are plenty of credible places you can go to learn more about this and other high energy physics experiments. Let me know if you'd like a list.

I'm sure in this day and age, risk assessments have been conducted, but what's to stop a little Black Hole growing into the Daddy of Black Holes?

Physics. Black holes just don't "grow" on their own. But even if they did, these mini black holes wouldn't have the energy density or mass to even stick around longer than a few milliseconds.

The truth is, they do not know,

They know. But you do not and that is what sensationalist tabloids depend on, scientific ignorance. And such ignorance is fertile ground for alarmist journalism and fear porn. And ignorance based fear porn is lucrative.

People a whole lot 'smarter' than you or I created atomic weapons that could, (and probably have) fecked up this planet. So a parallel universe/mulitverse/alternative reality even, might just be a means of escape..in and out, sort of.
However the OP doesn't say much on the tin as to what the CERN parallel universe is about, since they don't say, because they don't know, much the same as the Atomic testers didn't know when they messed about with boyz toyz.

According to some current M Theories and the 12 or more dimensions, there could be an infinite number of "copies of Earth", Just think , in a universe somewhere in the infinite multiverse , I am Emperor of that Universe and everything is subservient to me....

Wouldn't it be cool if a 'Big Bang' occurred next door because of the LHC? Imagine if our 'leakage' causes the genesis of creation in a neighbouring universe?

Or the end of a flourishing one

The only thing they need is the trace of a single particle , that due to the mysterious Higgs_Boson , appearing where something should not have appeared. Voila, could be proof of the multiverse (the parallel universe is a different theory that states all universes in the multiverse exist in space/time at the same relevant position as all others)

A parallel universe is also called a ALTERNATE reality. Seen the show FRINGE? it is a good example of a alternate dimension/reality /parallel universe.

Right, I wasn't arguing that so much as the idea that CERN creating mini black holes (probably better called micro or nano black holes to be honest) would be the end of us all.
