Why would we invade Venezuela?

What else bedsides oil of course. Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world.

That old trope, i thought that nonsense died in Iraq? What we need is the free flow of oil. Doesn't matter where its from if the price is global. Venezuela constitutes about 6% of US oil imports. Why would the US spend treasure on something it already gets at market prices?

Because its easier to repeat unsubstantiated anti-American propaganda than actually come up with a logical answer.

Seems odd that Bolivia would want war with the US when they are trying to improve relations with the US?

“We have had various meetings, and in the last meeting with the United States we proposed that we organize a meeting at the highest level, we proposed that President Morales meet with President Obama, with much respect,” said Choquehuanca.

The apparent willingness of the two countries to meet marks a shift in relations in recent years. Peter Brennan. the U.S. chargé d'affaires in Bolivia, spoke to the Bolivian press following the ambassadors’ event, stating that “we are delighted that the government of Bolivia wants to improve relations with the United States.”

Sorry but I have to call Bravo Sierra on this.

Well Bolivia barely has a military and mostly it is used for policing and the occasional mass shooting of protesters. Bolivia has had a long standing dispute with Chile over its old coast line that Chile kept after Bolvia declared war they went on to lose to them. Bolivia has been making a lot of noise over this issue as of late no doubt to distract its own people who are alway on the verge of rising up. It needs Venezualas political backing in this dispute so this is most likely a symbolic gesture to continue to get that support. The US does not need to invade either of the countries because they are so poorly run that revolution is simply a matter of time. When Venezuala was funding and arming rebels in Colombia and got caught Colombia could have rolled in a wrecked them, the US did not support that idea because they see change Venezuala's leadership and its never ending failures as something that will pass on its own.

Of course Chile with the best trained and best equiped forces in all of South America is more than a match for Bolivia's military that is so deperate for manpower they grab teenagers off the streets and pressgang them. And Colombia the second largest military in South America, well armed, well trained and with tons of experience is more than a match for Venezualas mess of a military that buys weapons systems nobody is trained on. Chile and Colombia are of course close US allies but much like the US they see Venezuala and Bolivia as nothing but, failing states not worth any military effort.

Does Vietnam ring a bell? How about Afghanistan?

The North Vietnamese defeated the USA. The Taliban hasn't been defeated and still has influence in some areas of Afghanistan.

You also forgot to mention how afgan fighters, mainly talibans put USSR to shame. All that firepower and military hardware against some cave fighters on mules, donkeys and horses and yet couldn't defeated them.

Well... it just isn't the US or former USSR. Afghanistan isn't known as the "Graveyard of Empires" for nothing...

If anything-we should invade and take over mexico.

Shouldn't be too hard since all of the mexicans are up here.

Did't anyone on here ever see a comedy film called"a mouse that roared". It was about a very, very small country in central Europe who devised a scam of declaring war on the USA, then capitulating and then claiming millions of pounds in reparations.
Probably Bolivia is trying the same tactic.

Well, for a country that has ZERO fighter jets, I wish them luck in their future endeavors. They are not a threat to the US in any form or fashion. That's cute though...www.globalfirepower.com...
Now go ahead and compare that to the US...www.globalfirepower.com...

Heavy firepower isn't everything though...

It isn't good to have a short memory.

If the USA were to show overt aggression in, and towards, South America, i would predict they would have a very tough time.

Why?

Would they all finally leave our country and go back home to fight?

Please let it happen!!!!

Wow, really?

Yes really!!!

They have a country, they can stop their illegal invasion of mine any time they want and I will even help them pack move and thank them.

US forms socioeconomic war with nations with different political systems mainly left wing or socialist. Have a look at the cost of pertol in veneuzuela. They have put a lot of infrastructure back in the hands of the state..

War is being wagged maybe not with missles but there are other ways

purp..

Yup. Greedy is as greedy gets. That and the fact that they are looking to other currencies to trade for that oil. Petro-dept is rapidly losing is influence over the worlds economies. Perhaps by spreading their military backed " liberation " wars too thin globally the banking bottoms-feeders will find themselves like a beast trapped in the piranha infested jungle river hemorrhaging more money than what was to grab in resources.

A few years ago when Chavez was alive, he was having problems with CIA drug running out of Columbia on the Venezuela border and crossing over into Venezuela. It was getting so bad, he was looking for enders/mercs to work the border area. There's some bad blood there between the CIA turds that pull the puppet strings for the banksters and Chavez's old guard. Don't ask how I know.

Cheers - Dave

Because if we can do like we did in Iran back in 53 and overthrow the government we can get the oil even cheaper if American companies are allowed to raid the oil fields Venezuela has and not have to pay market price.

Really... so your argument is the world is the same now as it was back in 53? Eisenhower years? Oh come now.
Does anyone else by that theory?
