The stunning phenomenon of rare frozen waves has been caught on camera by Jonathan Nimerfroh. He shot the photos off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in late January. The anomaly is possibly due to specific environmental factors, such as air and water temperature, and the pattern of movement in the water.
