Compulsive Post Editing

I'm a compulsive editor. Probably one of the 'worst' here lol

Primarily it's to correct mistakes. Or to just be a perfectionist of sorts.

However there are many times when I will post a reply to someone only to realize there was another post from them addressed to me after the fact. So I will edit that post and append additional content to it.

Removing the edit coding from your post to conceal how many times you've actually changed the content of it is bulls#.

I always remove it all, and will continue to.

It's an eyesore to me and I am sensitive like that.

I don't see why people need to know how many times or why I made edits.

I agree with your sentiment towards those that drastically alter the tone and direction of their post. I certainly try not to do that.

Most of my edits are due to not proofreading my posts before hitting post, but I am guilty of adding stuff to my posts after the fact. I don't really care about first page posts though.

Why? You only need to see that I edited my post. You don't need to know how many times. I personally think listing all of those edits is a waste of space so I delete them compulsively.

When I edit most of the time it is for spelling, but often I have to fix links that didn't hold.

The amount of times I edit is no one's business that complaint seems a bit anal IMO.

If for some reason I need to add content then I usually will write

Edit to add....

Before the content is added. I want people to know there is more to read.


The other thing I like to do is give a reason for editing instead of leaving it saying "no reason given" however I like to be creative with that space. If it is a spelling mistake I usually write "durp" otherwise I may do something a bit different such as.

Hmm, delete the edit coding, never thought of that...

I'll bet you had to sit on your hands to fight the urge to go back into the OP and change something?

Regardless, some minds are not so perfect as others. Some posters, probably most, have yet to understand that they should compose their thoughts in a word-processor first and tidy it up before it goes hot to the ATS presses. And I'll bet a lot of people don't know that a good spell checker can slip itself right along to an ATS box when a post is being prepared on site.

I just added the word "in" to a post of mine about six minutes ago. No harm done except to a few electrons. Now just imagine all of those that you've used up.

Peeps around here seem they can't handle very much. All these useless rants lately are so whiny and redundant.

What's the point. ..

@OP topic - I edit because 95% I'm on ats mobile and touch text messes up alot. Alot of editing is typos or after thought of the same topic.

To bad that ruffles your feathers. ..

If it becomes too much of a problem for you then give people five minutes before responding. After all, you have control over waiting five minutes, but none over if someone is going to edit their post or not.

I typically do, however I've run into multiple instances of late where members have changed the content of their post well after I've responded to it, probably to render any criticism moot.

I'm sure you've run into that tomfoolery before. That's the kinda nonsense I'm talking about--willful attempts at manipulation and/or deception.

Touche. I stand corrected. Sometimes, however, it is a deliberate attempt at concealing the "evolving nature" of the post, which is where the problem lies. If you've had to edit it several times for various reasons... yeah, it's a total eyesore to not delete them.

anyways, I only edit mine if im fixing wording, adding clarity, or something I forgot. but I do this all quickly and before anyone has a chance to comment. I am a bit o.c.d--if that helps you get where i' m coming from
