Louise Erdrich, author of the novels “Love Medicine” and “The Round House,” will receive the Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction this year.

The prize, which will be awarded during the National Book Festival on Sept. 5, is given to writers with “unique, enduring voices” whose work addresses the American experience. Past winners include John Grisham, Toni Morrison and E.L. Doctorow.

I think that this is great news. She is one of my favorite authors. Some of my favorite novels by her include: The Beet Queen, Tracks, The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse, and The Painted Drum. If you haven't read any of these, do so. You won't be sorry.

You're welcome. She's not well known but her work is great. If you like her writing, her husband, Michael Dorris, is also good. A Yellow Raft in Blue Water is one of his best.
