If it fits.

I re-read that there, it did sound like garbled pish, apologies. What happened was that something uninstalled itself (or I uninstalled it, probably me, I think) and I couldn't play videos. They just came up as black squares here and I really wanted to see what you'd all posted! Quite a boring explanantion, really.

Any excuse for the Pogues, and since it's St Paddy's - Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham 6

And cos it probably fits, Belle and Sebastian - She's Losing It

Something I love that few people are aware of.

A bit of psychedelia.

I thought I'd start a thread for posting little songs or albums from artists that aren't mainstream, but you find some genius in it... something that sends a shiver up your spine.

Well, no video from me, just two names of bands I absolutely adore and listen to non stop - Chumbawamba and The The, both hugely under rated and not in the mainstream.

The Chumbas most people know from TubThumpin' but they were around for 30 years and released numerous albums, all of which I have. Very political, and some amazing songs, too many to pick out just a few.

The The, best album imo has to be MindBomb which is so prophetic in many ways especially the first track.

OK, I think this should be the anthem for ATS - Sheep by the Housemartins

[yvidv=]mIWOhisqrP8[/yvid]

Sometimes I get so angry with the simple life they lead
The shepherd's smile seems to confirm my fears
They've never questioned anything, they've never disagreed
Sometimes I think they must have wool in their ears

And when you see a cane I see a crock
And when you see a crowd I see a flock
It's sheep we're up against
Sheep we're up against

When I was young they used to get me counting sheep
But the counting I did was all in vain
Now when I'm tired and I'm trying to get to sleep
I count humans jumping onto trains

And when you see a cane I see a crock
And when you see a crowd I see a flock
It's sheep we're up against
Sheep we're up against

And when you see a cane I see a crock
And when you see a crowd I see a flock
It's sheep we're up against
Sheep we're up against

The God Fathers - I'm Lost and Then I'm Found

(Had to logon to the net and realized that I had several beers! I will add "no more drunk postings" to to my list of things not to do! But i really love NMA!)

So heck, hears one of mine favs (and because beansidhe misses her juke box...)

I really enjoy the hunters. In the post-emo disaster, they really shined. Reminds me of old-school whimsy.......... like the B-52's.

Narcissist.

ETA: Drummer reminds me of Dave Grohl. Not in the way he looks. In the way he drums. Powerful. Eclectic.

Stupid double post! And the second vid the same as the first? Grrrr. (I even checked to make sure everything was OK. See 1984hasarrived, happens to the best of us!)

I like the pop-ish World Shut Your Mouth song by Julian Cope. And any NMA is appreciated!

I know it is not really a song... But this VHS is sitting with the blu-rays because I do not have the heart to shove it into some dark, unused cabinet where I won't see again for years at a time! A movie featuring Youth Brigade, Minor Threat, and Social Distortion. They hop on an old school bus and go on tour in 1984.

Few people outside of UK are unlikely to have heard of this group, and very few in UK have now sadly.

One of the best pop bands of the 80s, IMHO - only released one album, but what great songs, what a legacy.

A lot of the stuff I listen to has a political message, and so the lyrics are always very important to me

It is so depressing, since nothing has really changed since that song came out. Steel works are asking for public buy-outs (they shouldn't have been privatised but that's another story), strikes are becoming more frequent, the public sector is being strangled. It's like the 1970's again, it's bizarre.

Pesky things, youtube videos.

Do you like Jubilee (Derek Jarman)? You might, if you like '80's punk films. I found some cassettes (yes, I still own tapes
) when I was clearing out some boxes the other day. I still love this:

Indeed, beansidehe - I used to discover music myself, now it takes a thread like this, sad.

I loved the music in the 80s in the UK - I felt there was a possibility for change, and sadly now look at what we have to listen to.
