I thought I'd start a thread for posting little songs or albums from artists that aren't mainstream, but you find some genius in it... something that sends a shiver up your spine.

Never mind that some will find your choice old hat... or horrible.... just share the tones that really matter to you.

I'll start by offering a Youtube link to a famous album to some, but a total blank to most.

What does one get when they take two artistic brothers from the wastes of Phoenix, mix some odd chems, heat and time... too much time? (An attempt to mimic the old time fanzines or music reviews where the writer tries to dress up the phrase, "I like this musc.")

The Meat Puppets ... the originators of Psychedelic CowPunk... or one of them. I knew these guys back when... and their band schtick wasn't a front... they were just as degenerate as they seemed... and original.

To those who are brave and unknowing... go through the first few songs before giving up... there are some real catchy melodies hidden in the minor key noise.

Anyway, I thought it would be nice to have such a thread for those times you want to hear something new and don't know where to start.

Meat Puppets II

I post this because I was in another thread and this band came up in my mind.

I googled it but the thread went another way.

There are several for me that have not necessarily made the 'hot' list on the media.

Here's a little ditty......... Pennywise - Bro Hymn

............and another which has always resonated to me as ....... pure, and ... special

Radiohead -- Creep

Thanks as well... perfect. I listened to the Robert Rich for 5 min and liked it ... muchly... and will hear it in it's entirety tonight at my 10 pm 4:20 break... already love me drones (like ENO, etc) and Dead Can Dance is old hat, but loved, too.

So... this might turn interesting... it is a tad like stripping in public as beloved music is likely one of the most revealing things about a person. Either way I'm hoping to get a few months worth of new things to listen to... things that have been vetted for artistic worth by some of the finest minds on the internet (which admittedly isn't saying a whole lot).

But thanks to all who participate...

Yeah... Pennywise... forgot about them and that was a song I'd heard in passing somewhere, liked and then it got lost ...so thanks! Then there's Creep... they could've just quit right then after writing one of the best songs ever ... very "shivery" song.

Hmmm The Cure have been a favorite of mine forever, and they have some early stuff that was ...er dark, the very best of the shoe gazer goth style and an album that creates shivers and revulsion.

The Cure have been a favorite for a long time, so ........ respect. M'Bride and me saw them at San Jose and they were phenomenally tight -- almost exactly like the studio recording. Of course, this was eons ago. I always wished that The Clash would've been in form to play and toured with with Cure. What an awesome lineup that would've been.

I love the cure but not that one and will listen to it later.

Made me think of the pixies though? If we are looking to maybe expand things I don't know how many folks know about them.

Short but very sweet, even rancid had to start somewhere.

This one is old but for some reason it just does it for me. I think the line about banjos playing through the broken glass windows is genius.

Here's a funny thing. Because of monitors pointed at me, my hearing is destroyed. I can't make out much of that except "bombshell" and "what the hell" but I [expletive] LIKE IT!!! wooooooooooooooooo!

Thank you SO much. I love to discover music new to me. Especially music that makes my head bob.
