certain monologues and dialogues stay with me long after
watching the movie they are in.

this is a transcript of a scene from Wim Wenders' 1984 classic 'Paris, Texas'. in the scene,
Travis Henderson (he’s played by Harry Dean Stanton) walks across a freeway bridge, all
the time approaching a man standing in the middle, who is shouting the following;

"You will all be caught with your diapers down! That is a promise!
I make you this promise on my mother's head! For right here, today,
standing on the very head of my mother, which is our God Green Earth,
which everybody who wasn't born in a #ing sewer ought to know and
understand to the very marrow of their bones! They will invade you in your beds!
They will snap you from your hot tubs! They will pluck you right out of your
fancy sports cars! There is nowhere! Absolutely nowhere in this Godforsaken
valley! I'm talking about from the range of my voice right here, clear out to
the goddamn Mojave Desert and beyond that! Clear out past Barstow and
everywhere else in the valley all the way to Arizona! None of that area will
be called a Safety Zone! There will be no Safety Zone! I can guarantee you
the Safety Zone will be eliminated! Eradicated! You will all be extradited
to the Land of No Return! It's a Navigation to Nowhere! And if you think that's
going to be fun, you've got another think coming!
I may be a slimebucket but believe me, I know what the hell I'm talking about!
I'm not crazy! And don't say I didn't warn you!
I warned you! I warned all of you!"

great stuff

have any fellow ATSers got similar favourite cinematic moments? i hope to occasionally post other
memorable examples from time to time.

From the Watchmen movie (loved it).

"The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' And I'll look down, and whisper 'No'"

I just loved the quote it is so Rorschach

Watchmen is a movie that portrays false flags as noble

Mass murderers as heroes

Not surprised you liked it, based on your posts

[RE: What they found on Miranda] This record here's about twelve years old. Parliament buried it and it stayed buried until River here dug it up. This is what they were afraid she knew. And they were right to fear. There's a universe of folk who're gonna know it, too. Someone *has to* speak for these people.

[pause]

Y'all got on this boat for different reasons, but y'all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything, I know this - they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. So no more runnin'. I aim to misbehave.

that's a good line from the watchmen
not seen until the end of the world yet (now on the 'to do' list ).

Wenders' stuff is kind of enigmatic and often ethereal. i tend to be drawn to such movies.

another of my favourites; from 'Repo Man'

Otto and Miller in vacant lot under bridge

Otto holds up book he's about to throw in burning garbage can.
Book says "Dioretix: The Science of Matter over Mind. By A. Rum Bi...".

Miller: A lot of people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch of unconnected
incidences and things. They don't realize that there's this like lattice of coincidence that lays
on top of everything. I'll give you an example, show you what I mean. Suppose you're thinking
about a plate of shrimp. Suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp'
out of the blue no explanation. No point in looking for one either.
It's all part of a cosmic unconsciousness.

Otto: You eat a lot of acid Miller, back in the hippie days?

Miller: I'll give you another instance. You know the way everybody's into weirdness right now.
Books in all the supermarkets about Bermuda triangles,UFO's, how the Mayans invented television.
That kind of thing.

Otto: I don't read them books.

Miller: Well the way I see it it's exactly the same. There ain't no difference between a flying saucer and
a time machine. People get so hung up on specifics. They miss out on seeing the whole thing.
Take South America for example. In South America thousands of people go missing every year.
Nobody knows where they go. They just like disappear. But if you think about it for a minute,
you realize something. There had to be a time when there was no people. Right?

Otto: Yeah. I guess.

Miller: Well where did all these people come from? hmmm? I'll tell you where. The future.
Where did all these people disappear to? hmmm?

Otto: The past?

Miller: That's right and how did they get there?

Otto: How the f*** do I know?

Miller: Flying saucers. Which are really? Yeah you got it. Time machines. I think a lot about this kind of stuff.
I do my best thinking on the bus. That how come I don't drive, see?

Otto: You don't even know how to drive.

Miller: I don't want to know how. I don't want to learn. See?
The more you drive, the less intelligent you are.

I like that part of the movie, but the part that really strikes me every time I see it is the scene in River's psyche where she and the teacher go back and forth over the role of the inner planet government in people's lives. I wonder why that particular but is so hard to find?

But I like Rover's comeback, "We meddle and we haven't the right."

Got one from the Brad Pitt movie.

Edited of course.* *

Jackie Cogan.

My friend, Thomas Jefferson is an American saint because he wrote the words 'All men are created equal', words he clearly didn't believe since he allowed his own children to live in slavery. He's a rich white snob who's sick of paying taxes to the Brits. So, yeah, he writes some lovely words and aroused the rabble and they went and died for those words while he sat back and drank his wine and *had intercourse with* his slave girl. This guy wants to tell me we're living in a community? Don't make me laugh. I'm living in America, and in America you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business. Now *flipping* pay me.

Not that I believe it I just thought it extremely apt to the film.

Warning a few naughty words.Oh and spoilers..

Loved the film even though it didn't get rave reviews.
