I think Ghenghis Khan gets that trophy.
I'm not aware that he was religious in any way.

Im just jumping in here to support your obvious understanding of history. The internet has created an entire BS facade of history which, by use of the 20 year social amnesia rule, entirely subjugates masses of people too lazy to care about their own sources of information.

I was waiting to be admonished for suggesting Ron as a great thinker..

I might have replied to the wrong thread.

This place can be very mysterious sometimes - haunted by lost souls

Space flight, teleportation ,magic jazz hands but all these are now lost because he killed the one man who knew about those discoveries.

His army completely sacked Baghdad in 1258. It was the pinnacle of science in the Muslim world at the time.
They have never recovered.

Seeing as your OP question is clearly loaded to be divisive...

I'll ask;

How many scientific acheivments have killed religious people???

& when/if you answer that, I'll consider answering your question.

Perhaps my riddles were too obfuscating? I worked with Del Close...he and L Ron were working some classical elements. The argument is solely between the un-initiated

What made you think it was intended to be devisive Charlie?

I thought it was a good question as long as it was not intended to prove that one religion was better than another?

Interesting.

What scientific achievements did they have that were destroyed in 1258 ?

No I have no knowledge -
I just remember being virtually kidnapped off the street to answer questions about my psychiatric experiences which rather cleverly I made up to go with the flow - I think my giggling killed it.

A quick google reveals that they destroyed the Grand library of Bagdad containeing many historical books on medicene, astrology and science.

Although this is not strictly on topic it could be said that the destruction of literature is worse overall than the killing of scientinst as the information is lost entirely as opposed to creating a martyr.

Something tells me, that intentionally or not...

This thread has the potential to go down that route!

OP: It was Catholicism...

And even being raised Catholic with an entirely Catholic family, I still stand by that.

I'm assuming it's Christianity, but lately I've seen a lot of craziness blaming Muslims for the dark ages and other such things. As well as people claiming Christianity isn't anti science. So here is a spot to list all the great thinkers from history that were murdered by what ever church killed them.

This is an easy answer: The Religion of State.

National Socialism, Communism, Fascism, etc.

The worship of the all powerful government.

I thought about harassing you, but I figured you were being fecetious.

On Topic: I would say the Catholic church would be the biggest culprit historically. However, now the Catholic church is all about science. I think they were back then too, but they didn't want some knowledge public because it went against church doctrine or scripture.
