I may have ranted about this before but I have got my goat up and a rant is what I need.
So many refuse to give blood and that is why we are always running low.
But you can bet 99.9% of those who refuse to give blood will take it when needed.
So lets say If you don't give blood you don't get any If needed.
You can bet If this happened we would never run out of blood.(not going to happen don't worry).
So do it people give blood, tell your workplace you want the blood van to come around, it will get you off work for an hour
.
Rant over carry on.

Oh and while I'm at it leave your organs to people who really need them also....it's the moral thing to do.

I wish I could but the blood bank told me I've received so much that as much as they'd love my blood (universal donor), they can't.
I would like to though, if I could. I am a donor on my DL, if they can use anything that is.

How do they know if you are gay or not?

Do you have to tell your doctor your sexual orientation?

In the UK they depend on trust.

They ask you. So telling the truth gets you denied. I don't blame anyone for telling the truth. Why should anyone have to lie about who they are or who they sleep with when they are doing something to help save lives.

I imagine it's a matter of principle. It would be for me.

The ultimate totalitarian grab, your very blood.

To suggest that failure to give blood is selfish is the epitome of resource redistribution.

You don't have to be rich to be parsimonious.

Thanks for being so honest.

I was an Iv drug user which is what disqualifies me even though my blood work is fine. Of course that information was voluntary. As far as I know smokin' some reefer doesn't exclude you (not sure I'm allowed to say that so mods delete if necessary).

They ask you and it's actually more about the anal sex part, then the homosexuality, which is ridiculous, because they don't ask straight people the same kinds of questions. And it's not like they don't have those sexual practices as well.

Yeah..Oh and that all stems from legislation introduced in the 80's during the whole HIV=Gay hysteria.

I friend here in the UK tested positive for Canabis and was sent a letter saying that he was banned for life for giving blood.

The sad thing was he did not smoke it but his housemate did.

I'm not normally squeamish and I have a high tolerance to pain. The first time it happened, I was as puzzled as anyone else. One minute I was walking out the door and the next I was in a chair with a nurse instructing me to sip a little cool water and telling me she had called me mother because I'd sort of blacked out on everyone. This was after my boosters before I went to college.

I've been unreliable ever since. So yeah, that does look less scary.

So even if your hiv tested negative and celibate but gay your not allowed to donate?

It sounds like this is more about causing panic in narrow minded biggots and less about the risk of contaminated blood.

Never, nor will I accept it.

That said, I wouldn't be mad if I woke up alive from an accident because I received it.

The issue here is demanding that everyone adhere to your ideology and give up their minds, their property and now even their bodies.

I think this comment is perfectly valid.

If someone is unwilling to donate blood but happy to recieve a transfusion there is something definatley wrong.
