ERMAGERD, OBAMA MEALS!

Seriously... this complaint is so ridiculous. The government has always determined what our kids eat at school. Nobody complained because they made our kids eat junk food. The moment the first lady wants to actually improve something we've always done, people start talking about the government making their kids starve.

The kids aren't starving. Lunch isn't even necessary for a child's growth so there's no such thing as "too few calories" at a school lunch. For most of the kids going to public schools, it's the least harmful thing they eat all day. Kids have the unique opportunity to set up their bodies on good dietary habits. My generation got screwed because we just got junk food and greasy crap at school so we grew up thinking that's what we liked. This is why most people I know in their mid-30's are obese and/or have serious health complications.

If they did this in a 3rd-world country, it would seem a bit strange but, in America, it's past due. I've always thought it was unfair to parents like myself that they made children eat pizza and other poisonous garbage. Nobody cared about it back then. I wonder why?

My son hasn't had school lunch in 3 years. They don't allow enough time for it.

This year he has started going off campus to get something at a local convenience store or something. They have a closed campus....but if they can't allow for a food service that can serve the students, ill be damned if im saying anything about it.

The problem: the first lady comes up with guidelines relating to nutritional standards. School food service is not well trained, and few would even be considered as a "cook" on a line in any decent restaurant. I may hire one of them as a garmage or something.

So you have guidelines telling you what types of foods to serve, and the quantities. When you see "green beans", you think about a nice, brightly colored vegetable. The reality: grey mush from a can.

The quality of the food items used to meet the guidelines...that is why the food tastes bad. The lesson students learn: healthy food tastes bad. With just a little more effort, the guidelines could feasibly improve the health of future Americans. But with the current half assed effort: it is just reinforcing belief that healthy food is gross.

When I was at high school in the UK (2nd year I think) they changed all our meals to healthy options...we all moaned because most of us would just get two lots of chips and gravy everyday.
Then we had healthy chips which took some getting used to but after a few weeks we would all be looking forward to our jacket potato and tuna.
I have to take a dude I work with to Mcd's every week (I refuse to spend any of my dosh there so I just sit there) and I look around at all the little fat kids crying that they want another burger...Oooo it gets my goat up.

i know thank god the government can step in and tell us what we can and can not eat lol
after all they are giving me health care so they should decide what is healty for me not

why just the other day at my wifes work they wanted to take their blood during the mandatory morning exercises
something to do with the new healthcare changes and if you gave your blood you get 20 bucks a month added
to your check

LOl people i live in america and my wife works at cintas .............not china not some sweat shop.

It seams there alot of people who think big government and actions like this by them is ok well for you and your country
thats fine but as for me and mine no way

You want my blood come and take it you gonna tell me what to do you better be ready to make it happen by force

And to be honest the amount of big brother the government knows whats best people on here is rather mind blowing

Im glad I live in America where at least I know Im free And you best be prepared to kill or die if you wanna take that RIGHT
from me.

That's the first argument I've heard against it that actually has me thinking.

I guess that's the problem: Junk food tastes "good" no matter what sort of quality standards are in place (actually, the cheaper and faker it is, the "better") but with healthier options, skimping out on quality can make a huge difference. I honestly haven't thought about that yet.

Something to consider:

- the "food pyramid" was taught as gospel for several generations. in this pyramid: a standard diet for all to follow, despite all being different from each other. The result: people who do not need to be eating carbohydrates have carbohydrates pushed on them. The result of that: obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure have skyrocketed. The parents of today are doing what they were taught to do, for the most part: give your kids lots of grains, and no short amount of fruit juice as a proxy for fruit (and all that sugar it has, too)
- food that is affordable isn't healthy. I can feed a family of 4 for a couple of bucks if i buy rice and beans. Will it sustain them? Sure. But with my blood type, that is the absolutely wrong food to be eating

I am a smart man, or so i am told. Even with that, my youngest son ended up horribly obese. This past summer we took him to Mexico to have a sleeve gastrectomy performed. I figured out nutrition on my own, but by then it was too late. Lucky for him, i was able to save up the cash to pay for the surgery. No many parents in my neck of the woods can do that.

Keep in mind: when you criticize the fat kids parents, you are criticizing the ill informed and ill equipped. It isn't so much lazyness as it is trusting in what you are taught by your governmnt.

there isn't a green veggie out there that doesn't taste outstanding when served fresh, with some toasted almonds and a bit of goat cheese.

just the smallest amount of effort makes all the difference in the world.

Seems like she is just following the progressive socialist script on a captive audience of our most impressionable population, our children.

Deny personal choice and demonize unauthorized products and services.

I think the majority of the posts on here fully support my assertion.

And there is something wrong with how the food is being served and amounts.

My sister is blessed with three kids who LOVE their veggies. All you have to do is set down a platter of fresh vegetables cut into bite sized portions and they'll eat off it all day: cauliflower, green pepper, turnip, broccoli, leaf spinach, carrots, radishes, celery ... all regular features and eagerly eaten by her kids. They don't even need dip for them. They'll eat them plain.

They come home hungry and complain they aren't getting enough to eat at school, and they're the kind who would take the extra portions of offered veggies if the veggies were anything good to eat.

Michelle, this message will be given again in response to this evil being done to children and families, with their educational system funded by the people and not under the putrid opinions of a pschopathic tinytot. What people experience is fury and actual violence and injustice against them and they feel as if they were raped or beaten by someone. And the IOU you will owe that person is enormous. You have to pay up when you die. Good luck! Choosing to be evil really sucks in the end.

ETA: and Michelle, just in case your mystery school crapola didn't teach you this, the real purpose of life, is a sting operation to reveal who the renegades are and who abuse power, and harm others, ya know, like thinking you can do this to children's lunches. Bet you're going to regret quite a few choices soon enough.
