You think we are arguing about that? We never said that the action is something we can't choose to do.

Wow that is impressive. So if we can all outright determine that pedophilia is wrong without question and without debate...then why is it harder to determine whether it's wrong or right to be homosexual? Just to be clear we agree that an adult having sexual relations with a child is wrong, yes? Yet we can't agree on whether members of the same gender having sexual relations is right or wrong? Aren't they both outside of the "norm"? Yet one act is justified while the other is not......why??

Pedophilia is wrong without question, without debate in my mind.

Why is one justified while the other is not?
I don't think it is in a lot of minds, I suppose that's why people are debating the "naturalness" of homosexuality.

We can agree that having sexual relations with a child is wrong-yes.
We can agree that members of the same sex is right (for them), and is not really my decision to make.
You ask if they are both outside the "norm", and if I'm going to be intellectually honest, I'd have to say .. almost. Pedophilia is most certainly outside the norm, as far as homosexuality goes, I think it is becoming more and more socially acceptable.

My own opinion on the subject of homosexuality is that if we are the same and homosexuals wish to be viewed as "just the same" as heterosexuals, why then do they need a parade or gay pride, because as a straight woman I desire neither.

I take no issue with homosexuality-so will get no debate from me on the issue. I just want people to be at peace.

It is important to differentiate between the desire and the action. Because the action is something that you choose to do (to fulfill a desire).

You just answered the big question. Can we end this now? You can't debate what THAT PERSON just said it's beautiful!

Sighs please stop with the pedophilia discussion as it is derailing this thread.

Homosexuality and pedophilia ARE NOT ACTS.

They are ATTRACTIONS.

Stop twisting the definitions.

Now let's keep this thread on topic.

Oh I understand that. I was just making an statement and making it clear. Some posters in this thread and other threads have implied that if we choose to accept homosexuality as being natural and not a choice, then it will lead us to accept pedophilia.

So I guess the real question is, is homosexuality wrong. Because that's really what the question in the OP is getting at in my opinion. Otherwise why ask if it's a choice.

That's what fundamental Christians and apparently other people have asked, not the OP. OP has turned it around to them.

Homosexuality is wrong so therefore it is a choice.
Homosexuality is wrong so therefore it is not natural.
Homosexuality is "icky" so therefore it's wrong.

You get the drift.

I get the drift.
I think two consenting adults can do as they please, as long as it hurts nobody why should I let it bother me.

I was asked a question and I answered it.
*sighs*, please don't tell me how to think or answer. I respect your posts and will expect the same.

Oh sorry was not replying to you specifically. I was just worried that this thread is starting to get derailed.

It's very interesting tho how every thread about homosexuality has always turned into pedophilia discussion.

I think it hurts when people who don't support homosexuality are labeled as bad people that are full of hate. That's all I see when I look around. That person doesn't like gay people so let's publicly shame them because of it. So your wrong, it does hurt people.

Point taken. People can choose to ignore their feelings but they can't choose how they feel.

Only by the people who fear gay folk.

Did you see that study where they got self confessed homophobes and people who didn't care? well they played them some gay porn and the homophobes got turned on.
I think the loudest people who are against gay folk are in the closet and denying there true self.

Yes, I suppose your right about that. I have no dog in this fight and have never been hurt by other peoples choices (in that regard). But I can imagine that others choices can hurt others.

Thing is, adults do have the right to make those choices. We have to be honest with ourselves and can't live our lives to please others.

Most people misuse the word pedophilia to mean accosting children, that is why gay people, and some straight people too, get all butthurt when people make the comparison.

And it's true though, some people do that on purpose, when making the comparison, just to inflame gay people.

Homosexuality =/= gay sex and pedophilia =/= accosting children. It's just the underlying attraction. And research points to both not being conscious decisions, same as being straight. I know for sure I didn't choose to like girls over boys.

I also remember the first time I saw two men kissing when I was about 5. I said something like "Gross, why are those two men kissing on the lips!" really loud, and got yelled at by my mom lol. I didn't choose any of that, it was just my reactions to the world around me.

If I were to venture a guess it would be that most gay people in the World have never been to a gay parade.

Not sure I understand your point though. There are many events and activities that celebrate sexuality. Many that are largely heterosexual.Sure they don't explicitly say it's done via heterosexual pride, but that's probably because their orientation hasn't been systematically oppressed. Likewise there was 'black pride' that corresponded to their civil rights movement. It's just a way of empowering themselves with equal self-worth. Gay people that have 'gay pride' are not doing so out of some sense of superiority or spite against heterosexuality. At the end of the day it is about equality, and the pursuit of happiness, and all that jazz.

Come to think of it I've never thought about that. I have many gay friends. You are correct on that assessment.

Good post.
