Several Twitter comments are suggesting this might be a very convenient "Reichstag Moment"

Get rid of a critic
Blame Ukraine
Consolidate your public
Reduce political opposition
Excuse to widen the invasion

The coming days are going to be interesting.

No need to kill him? It doesn't take much to turn a 90% approval rating to 1%. He was a threat to Putin's agenda. The CIA wouldn't gain anything from this, they would go directly for Putin if they wanted to. I think option 3 is the most likely. This isn't the first time something like this happened on Putin's watch.

I saw that to taking over the investigation is the dumbest thing he could do unless he ordered it. Since he is one of the suspects it automatically taints the entire investigation.

Exactly.
He would know that this reduces his credibility, so to take control of it only bolsters the belief that he's doing so to hide any evidence leading back to the Kremlin.

If Putin has nothing to be worried about, he would not be taking control of the investigation and potentially angering the public, raising suspicion even more.

Explanation as why it might be a False Flag operation...

Breaking news: FALSE FLAG IN MOSCOW!

Boris Nemtsov has been shot dead in Moscow. He was one of the most charismatic leaders of the “liberal” or “democratic” “non-system” opposition in Russia (please understand that in the Russian context “liberal” and “democratic” means pro-US or even CIA-run, while “non-system” means too small to even get a single deputy in the Duma). He was shot just a few days before the announced demonstration of the very same “liberal” or “democratic” “non-system” opposition scheduled for March 1st.

I agree, popular person who is against the regiem, gets shot. One quick and tidy investigation, the person who is accused of doing the shooting ends up dead, "evidence" links to any number of targets, then it is used to justify actions. Nice, neat and tidy.

Boris Nemstov was a critic of Putin. Hence someone has carried out this hit to make Putin look bad.

If it was done by FSB then it would have been more slick and low profile rather than out in open in front of Kremlin.

There is not a shred of evidence in that tabloid.

Dream on. Nobody needs to TRY to make Putin look bad, he already does to everyone except his supporters.

So Putin then makes himself look EVEN WORSE by taking control of the investigation?

Right, makes perfect sense.

I disagree out in the open is exactly what he would want. If he just disspeared everyone would know why and how. Doing it publicly he can get people like you who thinks Putin wouldn't do it. And than also he sends a very clear message to oligarchs I can get to you in the most secure place on Russia. Around the Kremlin is very tight security so much so even law makers don't feel they need there body guards. Bet that will change now though

And Putin has the nerve to call Ukraine Government Nazi's. That's the cat calling the kettle black.

Call it a tabloid to try and discredit him, but he`s warned about something like this would happen.

And he also says he was an actual professional analyst but became side tracked for non disclosed reasons...and reading his stuff, he might be telling the truth about that.

Justin Raimondo: Funny how political murders in the US - JFK, RFK, MLK - are always the work of a "lone nut," but in Russia it's _always_ the Putin govt?

Yeah.

Welcome to ATS! Where if an outspoken opponent of the US government gets killed in the US it's the US governments fault. And if an outspoken opponent of the Russian government gets killed in Russia it's the US government's fault.

Really lone gunman you obviously need to Google the billions of pages. Don't think anyone believes they were lone gunman. In fact they always involve more than one. Case in point we already know at least 4 were involved on moscow.

According to who?
Most here don't think that, most here probably think the CIA acted to prevent political change.
But Putin's decision to take personal control of the investigation reeks of cover up.
Surely you have to admit he's looking MORE suspicious because of that?

Not just ATS this time, commenters on many mainstream news sites are calling this Putin's work....except RT of course.

If this was the work of the CIA, then it would have been covert and not published as the main headline on CNN seconds after it happened.
