So this is as good a place to ask this question as any.

We are all told that the record speed for a manned air breathing aircraft is the sr71. That was 39 years ago.

It was approx. Mach 3.2.

So....question is.....thats not the fastest....is it? And its not by the sr71 either....is it?

I got this from Wikipedia, the SR71 Blackbird is the current record holder at 2,193.2 mph
Link: en.wikipedia.org...

28 July 1976 Capt. Eldon W. Joersz and Maj. George T. Morgan Mach 2.883 2,193.2mph 3,529.6 Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird #61-7958 Beale AFB, US

If it's not, then it's a black project. If it's a black project anyone that knows won't say.

So yes, that is the record.

And how fast does it go? What's its official designation? Where's it based out of?

You started the whole green flame thread and mentioned how it goes horizon to horizon in no time....i expected you to respond with "nope and nope" nobodys asking where its based and what the designation is....ill just assume the records been broken based on green flame thread and ill leave it at that.

No, I said a different platform went from horizon to horizon in no time.

If you don't know anything about it, then it's a black project. Records aren't set by black projects. Therefore the record is held by the SR-71.

The point trying to be made is that since the craft didn't exist officially, there's no way for a record to exist officially.

So until a faster bird comes into the white, the old record stands as official.

How much longer do we need to wait...its been 39 years....and countless trillions spent on DOD....cant they at least throw us a bone once a decade at least?

Does the virgin galactic ship count? It does breathe air part the time.

How much does that look like the Virgin Galactic Space Ship One.

Those boys were tough as nails, I wonder if current HSE regulations and Corporate Homicide prevent risk taking and slow up development, not that I think thats a bad thing, I still marvel at all first flight test pilots, more so in commercial jets which arent fitted with ejection seats!.

I think they do carry parachutes in case they need to bail out. I'm fairly certain they did in the A389 anyways.

I don't know about speed but in a airforce biography it does say that a pilot has broken altitude records in a classified plane before.
