Eat a lot less, most don't need the present amounts, eat healthy food, it cost more but you eat less, so its cost effective.

Whom do we want to empower?

When we use our money we are giving a vote of confidence to the people who have made the product. Choose wisely because you are choosing for generations to come.

Do we want to give a corporation, who owns a patent on a modified organisism that can spread in nature, more money? Who own more of these patents and are actively seeking to plant their seeds?

This is a strategic way to spread their product whithin nature and once we realize we dont want it anymore, GMO that is, we will have a hard time removing it from the eco system.

Nature is the best technology we have available, call it made by God or evolution or cosmic dust, it has been growing since a very very longtime, for thousands of years. We made it till the 80' without GMOs and the internet.

Call me crazy, i give my money to those who use the best technology and dont cut corners. We still have a free market in place, let's use it for what it is intended: giving the power to the consumer to choose.

Wow. This is just one more reason for me to believe that the field of psychiatry is total bullcrap. I'm sure they'll come up with a name for that as well... if they haven't already.

It might already indeed, Bone.. I think it's Confrontational
Personality Syndrome. I heard that one, or thought I did
a couple of years ago. That would be perfect if you could
get an indisputable authority (the Brain Gods of the APA
Document Committee, aka recently as the renamed DSM
Task Force and forever as evil borderline megalomaniacs )
to put out in their own bible that people who even dissent
to the policies of the government are crazy.

Now the food... we'll see who's crazy when you're out.
And eventually-- no matter how much food, ammo, metal
or anything else stashed; someday you will be out Sam.
And that's when we go in. You will then pay the piper, Putzie.

Ahh yes, my daughter has been diagnosed as "Oppositional Defiant Disorder". In other words, when I'm mad, I don't want to listen to Mummy and Daddy. Well no flipping duh! I could have told them that!

I have to say that some people are taking the whole healthy eating to a whole new level.

I believe they are talking about the obsessive types that think eating one cheeseburger will kill you.

There is a difference in choosing to eat healthy and completely letting it take over every thought every minute of the day.

From reading the posts in this thread I can see that this will not be a popular opinion, but it is just like everything else. There are drug addicts, porn addicts, food addicts, just about everything else addicts, why would an obsession of eating healthy be any different?

Come to Texas. I believe eating one cheeseburger here probably CAN kill you. We just opened up a restaurant called HEART ATTACK GRILL. (Says it all, doesn't it?)

I hear one of the co-owners, a retired cardiologist (ISYN)
almost deep-frys the 1/2 and 3/4 lb patties in pure lard.

Same with the fries. Sign me up a for a Triple Bypass
Special and a pound body bag o'spuds. I love that $h#...
and I'm in IL. Going to make that the Bucket #2!

Obsessed with saturated artery cloggers, yup.
Come at me fro!rofl

We may be backsliding over in 'the community' again
Anya. They [APA] had to even redact the DSM4 into
the 4TR(Text Revision)... maybe just to avoid some
juicy class actions and maybe sufficient negative
publicity to get ::EDIT--- THEM --- EDIT:: ignored.
But to call someone defiant with the stats about the
food on [the plaintiff's] side crazy?
I don't mind at all eating unhealthy once in a while..
the taste reminds me of what food should have been
like from a perverted memory from my childhood. Hmmm.
Back to the journals for me.
edit on 22-2-2015 by derfreebie because: EDIT:: They need a b-slap. Like with an oak garage double door.

The most unhealthy part of a greasy hamburger is the bun.

Saturated fat doesn't cause heart disease.

The best lie us is one containing lots of truth.

Orthorexia nervosa is when someone is so concerned about eating right that they can literally DIE from malnutrition because they refuse to eat properly. It has nothing to do with GMO's. Someone who only eats GMO corn would fit this diagnosis.

I'd hate to think of what they'd think of the food my Nana used to cook us as kids! Lawdy!

Leg of lamb with mint jelly
Yorkshire pudding
garlic mashers (or as we call it, garlicky mashed potatoes)
Garlic beans (green beans)
rolls, double bread basically
salad

For dessert
chocolate cream pie
banana cream pie
coconut cream pie
cookies
cheesecake

That was just one dinner! The day we'd have Hungarian Goulash (the real kind, not the Americanized version of burger meat with macaroni), with TONS of sour cream and paprika on top over noodles. Loads of seconds or thirds, and PLENTY of dessert, and would you believe that woman looked like she was anorexic? All the woman in my family did! But my Nan was full blooded Hungarian and was NOT afraid of food!

I think balance is important. We don't have all the answers. Don't go too far in any direction. I also think the modern world is an experiment. Be careful selling your soul to it. And another thing, smile everyday.

/real smile.

There is no trusting conglomerates, that's a certainty. In any case, when it comes to typical food which would, under normal conditions, be regarded as healthy...I don't worry too much otherwise I'll probably wind up being anorexic through fear. I'm just concerned about eating meat which isn't the animal it is advertised as.

Which is exactly what the disorder in the OP is referring to. It literally has nothing to do with GMO foods and people wanting to eat healthy.

O good lord, this is ridiculous. They aren't saying eating healthy is a mental disorder. You just don't understand the basic definitions involved with a mental disorder. You are essentially saying anorexia is them labelling watching your weight as a mental disorder. It's not the 'eating healthy or pure" part that makes it a disorder and unhealthy, it's the "pathological need" part. Also, these all have certain requirements they must meet to be considered for a diagnosis, causing problems with work, school, or family, having a tangible negative effect on daily life, lost wages or preventable absences, things like that. Without these present it isn't a mental disorder, it's just someone who wants to eat healthy. You're totally, 100% misrepresenting this.

Not misrepresenting anything. Just posting a spate of recent articles focusing on it and the way they are focusing.

The reason I've posted this is because of the recent push in the media and possible reasons why and to keep an eye on it.

Don't let the fact that the discussion took a few tangents throw you. In addition, as mentioned before, there don't seem to be any numbers of how many suffer from this around.

Does this really have to become a new diagnosis? (It's not currently recognized as a clinical diagnosis in the DSM-5.) The term orthorexia nervosa literally means “fixation on righteous eating.”

That people get carried away with "righteous eating" is simply a form of some other underlying condition, like OCD. The we propose clinical diagnoses for getting carried away with the number 6? With hand washing? With flipping light switches three times> No. We simply call those OCD.

So again, who's pushing this and why is more the question. How is it linked. Up for discussion, not ridiculous.

Also, a real question to you. What is the clinical diagnosis or proposed clinical diagnosis for people eating only junk or unhealthy food?

The article is complete crap though. Whether we need the diagnosis or not is a good question, but they misrepresent the disorder.
