Sheb Woolley's.... Purple People Eater

Well I saw the thing comin' out of the sky
It had the one long horn, one big eye.
I commenced to shakin' and I said "ooh-eee"
It looks like a purple people eater to me.

It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater.
(one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater)
A one-eyed one-horned,flyin' puple people eater
Sure looks strange to me. (one eye?)

Well he came down to earth and lit in a tree
I said Mr. Purple People Eater don't eat me
I heard him say in a voice so gruff
I wouldn't eat you 'cos you're so tough

It was a one-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater
one-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater
one-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater
Sure looks strange to me. (one horn?)

I said Mr. Purple People Eater, what's your line
He said it's eatin' purple people and it sure is fine
But that's not the reason that I came to land
I wanna get a job in a rock and roll band

Well bless my soul, rock and roll, flying purple people eater.
Pigeon-toed, undergrowed, flyin' purple people eater
(we wear short shorts) Flyin' purple people eater
sure looks strange to me.

And then he swung from the tree and lit on the ground.
He started to rock, really rockin' around
It was a crazy little ditty with a swingin' tune
(sing awop bop aloo bop lop bam boom)

Well, bless my soul, rock and roll
flyin' purple people eater
Pigeon-toed, undergrowed, flyin' purple people eater.
Flyin' little people eater
Sure looks strange to me. (purple people?)

And then he went on his way, and then what do you know.
I saw him last night on a TV show.
He was blowing it out, a 'really knockin' em dead
Playin' rock and roll music through the horn in his head

Tequila!

Prison Song by System of a Down. Great song. Have you ever listened to any of their albums?

I'm surprised no one has suggested this classic and important tune:

Buffalo Springfield "For What It's Worth"

There's somethin' happenin' here.
What it is ain't exactly clear.
There's a man with a gun over there
A-tellin' me I've got to beware.

I think it's time we stop.
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.

There's battle lines bein' drawn.
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong.
Young people speakin' their minds
A-gettin' so much resistance from behind.

I think it's time we stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.

What a field day for the heat.
A thousand people in the street
Singin' songs and a-carryin' signs
Mostly sayin' hooray for our side.

It's time we stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.

Paranoia strikes deep.
Into your life it will creep.
It starts when you're always afraid.
Step out of line, the MAN come and take you away.

You better stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin'..
You better stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin'..
You better stop.
Now, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin'..
You better stop.
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin'..

Or Revolution by Tracy Chapman
"Don't you know talkin bout a revolution sounds like a whisper?"

I don't think so. You can suggest anything you like.

Garon,
I forgot all about that song, great idea.

I started making a list of the suggestions, so far about 60. I guess we should close this thread soon, and then start the finalist voting.

Hands down, the ATS theme song ought to be:

Mein Herz Brennt by Rammstein. It's passionate and dynamic, and full of occult references and fear

Check it out www.amazon.com...

... And the lyrics are way cool.

The two suggestions I like best so far are "They're coming to take me away" and "Keep on rockin' in the free world"... but I'd like to throw in "Unmarked Helicopters" by Soul Coughing, too.

Has anyone suggested the oldie, "They're coming to take me away -- ha ha!" it.stlawu.edu...

(yes, it really IS a song. Artist was "Napoleon XIV")

Lyrics for: Suicide Is Painless

Through early morning fog I see
visions of the things to be
the pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see...

[Refrain]:

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
I try to find a way to make
all our little joys relate
without that ever-present hate
but now I know that it's too late, and...

[Refrain]

The game of life is hard to play
I'm gonna lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
so this is all I have to say.

[Refrain]

The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
and to another give my seat
for that's the only painless feat.

[Refrain]

The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger, watch it grin, but...

[Refrain]

A brave man once requested me
to answer questions that are key
"is it to be or not to be"
and I replied "oh why ask me?"

'Cause suicide is painless
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
...and you can do the same thing if you choose.

but as that's taken with copyright problems...might not be a good idea.....

Anything by Rage Against the Machine will do. I suggest:

Guerrilla Radio
Transmission of a third world third round
A decade of the weapon of sound above ground
Aint no shelter if youre looking for shade
I lick shots at a brutal charade
As the polls close like a casket
On the truth devoured
A sillent play in a shadow of power
A spectacle monopolized
The cameras eye on choice disguised
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?
A spectale monopolized
They hold the reins and stole your eyes
The fistagons bullets and bombs
Who stuff the banks
Who staff the party ranks
More for gore or the son of a drug lord
None of the above f*** it cut the cord

Lights out guerrilla radio
Turn that s*** up

Contact I highacked the frequencies
Blockin the beltway
Move on DC
Way past the days of bombin MCs
Sound off mumia guan be free
Who got 'em yo check the federal file
All you pen devils know the trial was vile
An army of pigs try to silence my style
Off em all out that box its my radio dial

Lights out guerrilla radio
Turn that s*** up

It has to start somewhere
It has to start sometime
What better place than here
What better time than now
All hell cant stop us now

Take the Power Back would work too, but I like Guerrilla Radio

Cannot remeber the name of the song or the group, but back in 1985, summer when I was in Scandinavia I heard this one song. About the FBI and the CIA watching you from spy satellites, mentioned Big Brother too. Actually was a very good song. Tried to do a google search couldn't find anything. Will try bit torrents later.

Maybe "Missing Link" or "Walls of Confinement"

My vote would have to be for "Another Brick In The Wall" by Pink Floyd.

Another suggestion:

METALLICA - Holier Than Thou

No more!
The craps rolls out your mouth again
Havent changed, your brain is still gelatin
Little whispers circle around your head
Why dont you worry about yourself instead

Who are you? where ya been? where ya from?
Gossip is burning on the tip of your tongue
You lie so much you believe yourself
Judge not lest ye be judged yourself

Holier than thou
You are
Holier than thou
You are

You know not

Before you judge me take a look at you
Cant you find something better to do
Point the finger, slow to understand
Arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand

Its not who you are its who you know
Others lives are the basis of your own
Burn your bridges build them back with wealth
Judge not lest ye be judged yourself

Holier than thou
You are
Holier than thou
You are

You know not

Pink Floyd

Us And Them

(Waters, Wright) 7:40

Us, and them
And after all we're only ordinary men.
Me, and you.
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do.
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died.
And the general sat and the lines on the map
moved from side to side.
Black and blue
And who knows which is which and who is who.
Up and down.
But in the end it's only round and round.
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
The poster bearer cried.
Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside.

"I mean, they're not gunna kill ya, so if you give 'em a quick short,
sharp, shock, they won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he gets off
lightly, 'cos I would've given him a thrashing - I only hit him once!
It was only a difference of opinion, but really...I mean good manners
don't cost nothing do they, eh?"

Down and out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about.
With, without.
And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about?
Out of the way, it's a busy day
I've got things on my mind.
For the want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died.
