US Officials Admit Concern Over Syrian Refugee Effort

“The continued civil war and destabilization in Syria undeniably make it more difficult to acquire the information needed to conduct reliable threat assessments on specific refugees,” they wrote in the letter two weeks ago.

With tens of thousands of Syrians joining groups in the region like the Islamic State, the U.S. government “cannot allow the refugee process to become a backdoor for jihadists,” they added.

At the hearing Wednesday, an FBI official also questioned whether the U.S. intelligence community – with few assets on the ground in Syria and little insight into the country from elsewhere – can provide authorities with the information they need to properly determine whether any refugee could pose a threat.

"You have to have information to vet,” said FBI Assistant Director Michael Steinbach, who heads the bureau’s counterterrorism division. “Databases don't [have] the information on those individuals, and that's the concern.”

PROGRAM CALLED 'BACK DOOR FOR JIHADISTS'

The U.S. simply does not have the resources to stop Islamic radicals in Syria from slipping into the country through the State Department’s refugee-resettlement program, said Michael Steinbach, deputy assistant director of the FBI’s counter terrorism unit.

Separating legitimate refugees from terrorists was difficult enough in Iraq, where the U.S. had a large occupation force. Even then, the U.S. government’s vetting process missed “dozens” of Iraqi jihadists who slipped into the country posing as refugees and took up residence in Kentucky, according to a November 2013 ABC News report.

Several dozen suspected terrorist bombmakers, including some believed to have targeted American troops, may have mistakenly been allowed to move to the United States as war refugees, according to FBI agents investigating the remnants of roadside bombs recovered from Iraq and Afghanistan.

They can't tell the enemy from the civilian population… lol.

But continue holding people at Guantanamo, "signature" drone strikes, and bombing campaigns… anyone see the red herring yet?

The flood of Syrian refugees to escape the bombing in that country should be a clue…

Red Herring: something, especially a clue, that is or is intended to be misleading or distracting. If a herring is dragged across a trail that hounds are following, it throws them off the scent.

Will we allow the Jihadists....err, the refugees to bring in their personal weapons or will we just be passing out AK-47s and RPGs after we give them free health-care ?

Terrorists will hide among the innocent.

Then they will organize from within.

How can the US government justify taking away more freedoms if we aren't attacked from within?

Sorry, we seem to have brought some of the enemy over to live here so we are going to have to take away more of your freedom so that we can try to keep an eye on them.
Sounds like something we might be hearing sometime in the future.

WND really? But what about all those poor Christians which makes up 10% of the population? Would you just leave them to be slaughtered by ISIS? Wasn't the 24 that was killed enough to show that something needs to be done to help them? Looks like some people are just willing to stand by and do nothing when Christians are being killed simply because they think Middle East then they must be Muslim.

I never undertand why American are so easly scared of terrorists. More people are killed by todders a year than terrorists. And more people are killed by drunk drivers in a single night than terrorist kill in a year. Imagine if we spent a quarter of what we spend on counter terrorism on the things that do kill us. You are more likely to be killed by your own child with your own gun than you are by a terrorist in America. So lets just chill out with all the fear mongering.

Well, of course! Team Obama only has a few years left to find a way to declare Martial Law and set up a fascist state, so King and Queen Obama never have to leave the White House.

And Hey! Since we trained some/most of these rebels/terrorists, they may know more about "setting up terrorist networks in the U.S." that most citizens do!

Yeah I heard that same story about Clinton and Bush as well. And I am sure I will hear it about the next President. Always the same story only the names change.

All that is true, and that's largely because we aren't the prime country for immigration from mainly Islamic countries. Ours are from the Central and South American countries.

Europe has larger problems than we do.

But, if Obama makes it "fair" by importing our fair share of Muslims from the ME, then we can share in the random Café shootings just like they do! After all, we need to be more like Europe.

With U.S. involvement in Syria becoming more pronounced, that country's internal strife is escalating. Many thousands of Syrian citizens are now being evacuated.

Mass Evacuations Underway: www.daynews.com...

Since the USA is partly responsible for the need to evacuate, is it likely that President Trump will relax his Immigration and Refugee restrictions for Syrians who want to come to America?
