A religious state? Recognized by no nation in the world.

ISIS is more of the rape, murder, loot and plunder kind of terrorist. Their survival is wed to the fact that they DONT have territory to call their own. If they did...can you imagine? Hell Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan et al. would invade and occupy them in a week while the US made any building over two feet tall they tried to set up government in go "boom". They are stronger on the run than actually succeeding in creating a fixed geographical "state" or "government".

As to the idea that ISIS et. IL is formed against Christianity, to destroy Christianity ... according to them, they have other things on their mind ...

The Islamic State claims that common Shiite practices, such as worship at the graves of imams and public self-flagellation, have no basis in the Koran or in the example of the Prophet. That means roughly 200 million Shia are marked for death. So too are the heads of state of every Muslim country, who have elevated man-made law above Sharia by running for office or enforcing laws not made by God.

Wow, they're going to be busy before they can get to the Christians ... and speaking of that, what is their stated philosophy again?

Following takfiri doctrine, the Islamic State is committed to purifying the world by killing vast numbers of people. The lack of objective reporting from its territory makes the true extent of the slaughter unknowable, but social-media posts from the region suggest that individual executions happen more or less continually, and mass executions every few weeks. Muslim “apostates” are the most common victims. Exempted from automatic execution, it appears, are Christians who do not resist their new government. Baghdadi permits them to live, as long as they pay a special tax, known as the jizya, and acknowledge their subjugation.

The Atlantic - What ISIS really wants

Sounds like killing Christians is a bit far down on their list ...

But, of course, that's just what ISIL says, right? Well, not exactly, it's pretty much what they have done.

These goons are interested in killing people. They kill Muslims by the thousands (ironically, because they aren't "Muslimy" enough ... kinda reminds me of some folks around here who feel that other professed Christians aren't ... "Christiany" enough ... but that comparison is likely only showing that all religions collapse into orthodoxy and hereticism, given enough time, right? I mean, there's a difference between the self-righteous and the other self-righteous, right?)

Right. SO.

That's still pretty scary, right? Particularly if you read the rest of the Atlantic article, you will come away with a sense that these ISIS guys are a ... different stripe from garden variety terrorists.

What are we doing about it? What is our national position? What is President Obama doing when he's not slighting (some) Christians?

President Obama, February 11, 2015, Roosevelt Room

Good afternoon. Today, as part of an international coalition of some 60 nations -- including Arab countries -- our men and women in uniform continue the fight against ISIL in Iraq and in Syria.

More than 2,000 coalition airstrikes have pounded these terrorists. We’re disrupting their command and control and supply lines, making it harder for them to move. We’re destroying their fighting positions, their tanks, their vehicles, their barracks, their training camps, and the oil and gas facilities and infrastructure that fund their operations. We’re taking out their commanders, their fighters, and their leaders.

In Iraq, local forces have largely held the line and in some places have pushed ISIL back. In Syria, ISIL failed in its major push to take the town of Kobani, losing countless fighters in the process -- fighters who will never again threaten innocent civilians. And we’ve seen reports of sinking morale among ISIL fighters as they realize the futility of their cause.

Now, make no mistake -- this is a difficult mission, and it will remain difficult for some time. It’s going to take time to dislodge these terrorists, especially from urban areas. But our coalition is on the offensive, ISIL is on the defensive, and ISIL is going to lose. Its barbaric murders of so many people, including American hostages, are a desperate and revolting attempt to strike fear in the hearts of people it can never possibly win over by its ideas or its ideology -- because it offers nothing but misery and death and destruction. And with vile groups like this, there is only one option: With our allies and partners, we are going to degrade and ultimately destroy this terrorist group.

But, hey, let's quibble endlessly over whether "Christian" victims are getting enough press or not.

Disgusting.

So what is it? Was the White House avoiding saying they were Christians because they're not trying to inflame religious flames?

Or...are they only willing to backtrack on it AFTER the furor in the media?

This from Press Secretary Josh Earnest today:

White House press secretary Josh Earnest was pressed on Wednesday as to why he did not identify the 21 victims of an Islamic State beheading as Coptic Christians, as opposed to just Egyptian citizens.

At one point, Earnest said, “I can’t account for that specific line of the statement.”
However, he asserted the Egyptians were killed because they were Christians.

He can't account for that specific line in the statement?
His name was on it...He is the WH Press Secretary!

“You talked about the murder of 21 citizens. I’m just curious, why didn't you mention it was 21 Christians killed by Muslims? Is that relevant?
” Fox News reporter Ed Henry asked.

Earnest answered, “It sure is.”

Earnest cont.:

“The ISIL extremists that carried out this attack indicated the reason they were killing them is not just because they were Egyptian but because they were Christian,” Earnest said. “I think the president has been very clear. The president talked about this in his prayer breakfast speech earlier this month. There is a responsibility for people of all faiths to stand up and speak out when individuals try to use faith and distort faith to try to justify an act of violence.”

Earnest cont.:

“But we’ve been clear that we condemn this murder. The president was clear in the op-ed that was published today and on a variety of occasions I think I’ve been pretty clear here,” Earnest said. “We’ve been pretty clear here that we condemn this outrageous killing of these Egyptian citizens because of their Christian faith.”

Henry went on to question Earnest about why the White House “invoked faith” when three Muslim students were killed in North Carolina, but not when Islamic State terrorists beheaded 21 Coptic Christians.

Local authorities in the North Carolina slayings believe that the deadly incident was the result of a long-running parking dispute, not religion, USA Today reports.

In his response, Earnest said the president believes no one should be targeted based on their faith. He didn’t answer Henry’s question directly regarding why faith was included in one statement and not the other.

It's pretty clear that the WH Press Secretary AND President Obama caved to critical media pressure like a house of cards on whatever self-styled ideals they were attempting to uphold.

As to why the Press Secretary could not account for the omission/removal of the line in the WH announcement mentioning the 21 victims were Coptic Christians (referring to them, instead as "Egyptian citizens")?

Well, if, as Josh Earnest says: "it sure is [relevant]", one can only conclude that it was censored/edited out from higher up the chain of command, or that the Press Secretary who, himself, was responsible for the announcement and voicing the President's understandings is incompetent....and, apparently 'clueless'.
...or, and most likely (IMO) the Press Secy had to go out today and take one for the President...after he was soundly trounced on this 'omission' by critical press and negative public opinion.

you could kill alot of "non-descript" people, while wiping out entire races/religions, and never once acknowledge that it was genocide, due to the huge amount of people on the planet. there are alot of different sects of christians. so it really needs to be stipulated what KIND of christians as well.

are they targeting primarily non catholic christians or are they going specifically after catholics? are they targeting past enemies of the catholic church or christian groups that don't want a globalist government? these are important points. if a pattern develops and it appears people of specific versions of christianity are being targeted, they need to be warned so they can make escape plans.

a laundry list of the types of christian religions that have been targeted, needs to be created and maintained. also the race of the victims should be included on the list.

I'm not surprised. The Obama Administration isn't known for its "guts."

And I certainly won't second guess their non-statements as piped in above.

However, the fact remains, this group is not primarily about killing Christians. In both their words and their actions.

However, that doesn't stop the victim-fest that goes on.

My condolences to the families of the 21 people who died in Libya, the 45 people discovered burned beyond recognition in Iraq today, and the thousands that have been killed by these maniacs since they came to power.

Soon may the day come when we bomb them out of existence.

As far as I am concerned this so-called 'evidence' is nothing more than speculation and opinion.

What I am seeing in this thread is the deliberate throwing of mud at the current political leader and hoping some of it will stick - in other words "Divide and Conquer" is working it's devisive ways here.

What you are seeing is more akin to self inflicted ignorance by continuing to see Obama as someone who isn't trying to help evil things happen, especially when he contributes in very meaningful and purposeful ways that make them happen.

Obama is the mud you speak of, and he sticks everywhere he throws himself. That is the most unfortunate part of it.
Wherever he goes, things get effed over, and they are pretty much guaranteed to stay that way.

Nobody has to throw mud at Obama, as he does that with every f'' ing thing he does all by himself, and everyone knows it.

When a person like Obama is so embarrassingly bad at foreign policy and proper diplomacy, and who makes certain that problems persist rather than subside, is when you should be thinking about that double face palm image.

Yes, there is a difference. It's the difference between Jews being persecuted in Germany as opposed to German nationals. If you were Jewish, you were out of luck! It may be hard to wrap your head around this, but some people actually do identify according to various religious faiths.

The main point here is that CHRISTIANS are being targeted -- not just any ol' "national," no, CHRISTIANS. I think this sums it up really well:

"Today I read about the execution of those twenty-one or twenty-two Coptic Christians. Their only words were: 'Jesus, help me!' They were killed simply for the fact that they were Christians...The blood of our Christian brothers and sisters is a testimony which cries out to be heard. It makes no difference whether they be Catholics, Orthodox, Copts or Protestants. They are Christians! Their blood is one and the same. Their blood confesses Christ. As we recall these brothers and sisters who died only because they confessed Christ, I ask that we encourage each another to go forward with this ecumenism which is giving us strength, the ecumenism of blood. The martyrs belong to all Christians."

I have a good idea that if the White house would just condemn these things and make it very publicly clear that no religion exists on the planet that condones the killing of anyone, so these people doing the killing are not following any real religion, but are just killing because they have hatred and death in themselves for those that are different from them, which means they are completely deceived by whoever or whatever they think is giving them justification for killing "Christians" or anyone else.

The white house should be making it clear that these killers are not following any logical or valid course of action against Christians, because they are completely acting upon an unjustified belief that even their own religion does not condone them to be doing.
Call them murdering imbeciles, call them what they really are in public. Say it very loud on all the major news outlets what jabbering idiots these murdering morons are. (kind of hard when our leader and spokespeople are all jabbering idiots themselves though).

Our president isn't doing this though, he is muffling any coherent response and instead just denouncing it in a way that doesn't call it outright retarded.
Doing this makes it very unclear what really is happening, and leaves it cloudy and gray what has taken place. (like maybe they had a good reason to kill, but no one is very sure about).

It is like the white house is taking a semi neutral stance that just kind of acknowledges that something bad has happened that shouldn't have, but leaves it up for grabs as to what anyone should really do to stop it.

Instead of condemning this in a loud voice, and telling the entire world what true idiots these killers are, he is stating it as so not to be very insulting to the killers, as if he is afraid of offending them in too loud of a voice.

And that right there is exactly how this president has played these games since day one with our enemies.

One because he is Muslim, Two he does not want to admit they are waging a Holy war against the world, Three he does not want the Christians who do not read the news to get fired up thinking a Holy war is being waged against them.

No real Christian would would act like Obama does.

In Iraq 1500 Christians were executed in one day!! They were targeting them specifically. Jews are being targeted by Muslims in Europe and Antisemitism is on a massive upward streak. This is all the signs, of the rise of the Anti-Christ spirit. That video of the poor guy walking around France being spit on made me sick. They will spit on a Jew yet let Islamic Arabs walk around planning attacks on them. Ignorant Atheist morons is what they are.

Would you say the same thing if 21 blacks in the US were murdered at the same time? Then it would have EVERYTHING to do with their race. And blacks make up approx 13 times more of the US population than Christians make up of Libya.

What if the same group killed 21 whites in the US a week after they killed the 21 blacks, and 21 Hispanics the week after that? Would you still say it was about race then?

Christians aren't the only people that ISIS has killed. Oh, sure they're going to claim that they killed them solely because they were Christian, but they're also killing Muslims, claiming that they weren't "Muslim enough". And they would love to get their hands on a group of atheists so they could kill them for being Godless. They will kill whomever they can get their hands on, then they'll broadcast a reason to fit the killing. The publicly-announced reason is a sham. The REAL reason is simply to stir up trouble with the rest of the world, trying to start a war that they think their God will help them win. They don't care what religion you are. They don't care what country you're from. If they can get to you, they'll kill you. No matter who you are.

Well done people, you've fallen for the oldest trick in the book.

Thank You, perhaps not the oldest but as you illude to the "Roman Empire" was the master of this.

Call things by name, this persicution has been going on for more than a year and we don't have the nerve to name it.
It doesn't matter who is abused, they deserve to be defended.
