I love Jim Cantore. He's a hoot and a half. AND he knows his job well and loves it.

I've been in thundersnow a few times. Most recently was over Christmas time. It's weird and fun when it happens. The lightening bounces off the snow in the air. And the thunder sounds different then thunder in a thunderstorm.

"Sorry boss, can't make it in today. What's that ? You can't make it in either ? Stuck in your driveway too ? Gosh isn't this just horrible ?! Damn this winter weather !"

Hehe!

We sell rock salt at our locksmith shop, because we also carry hardware items alongside our main revenue stream. Not only that, but we live above the shop. So when we know that snow is on the cards, we salt the stairs that lead from the residences upstairs, down to the hard standing behind the shop, so that we can always get to work!

Because people are MORE likely to need hardware items during really cold weather, if it does ever snow, people rely on our store being open, so that they can purchase rock salt, coal, snow shovels, sleds, torches, batteries, fuses, all the stuff you NEED if the weather gets very bad.

It's been a while since we got to really feel the benefit of proximity to work, in that exact manner though!

This is proof that white collar jobs are useless.

So in other words, you're hot stuff, lol? No one minds the cold if it comes in small doses that are manageable, such as the storage room you talked about. But you tend to romanticize the idea, imo. However after if begins to seep into your abode and all indoor areas where there is no reprieve or escape from it, such as when the coffee in your sealed coffee tin goes moldy, we scream 'enough!' When day after frigid day your car will not start despite having a new battery, then you sing another tune. Late fall is brisk and we can dress for that kind of snowy weather without freezing our vital body parts, but it gets much more intense and bitter until our favourite topic of conversation is the countdown to spring and warmer climes.

ETA: An important dividing line between this season's suffering and the feeling of reprieve is Paddy's Day when we usually see some sign of melting or know that it's right around the corner. On that day everyone says they want to be Irish, even French Canadians, but here it could also be an excuse to celebrate the approaching end of this horribly cold long winter. Even the non-religious pray and believe the Lord was Irish: "J*sus Murphy, when is this season going to end?"

Put it this way aboutface, a couple of months of minus fifteen to twenty celcius (windchill included) would be nice as a yearly thing to deal with, that's all I am saying. I know it gets much colder than that in some places in the States, but for a fellow who likes a bitter wind, you can see how I might be envious of the furious blizzards and freezing temperatures you are dealing with right now!

It is winter time, and it is SUPPOSED to be cold!
