Anyone attempting to visit WhiteHouse.gov over HTTPS is currently seeing the error message ...

...

The error seems to be coming from a Common Name mismatch, essentially a misconfiguration that made the White House's certificate just suspicious enough ...

Usually when a legitimate site gets that message it means you have malware on your PC. I would suggest you run the free version of Malwarebytes, reboot your PC and try the site again.

Or your date and time is really off on your computer, causes certificates to not be trusted.

There are several reasons why users might be seeing this, and it doesn't always mean that the WhiteHouse site is at fault here.

Either way, the site will not be managed by the same people who manage cyber security. There's not one office running cyber intel and response AND operating a front-end customer service site too. That would be laughable, but it says something about the audience here who seem to equate national security with what's basically a blog.

Check the cert- it's not expired, it's registered to the hosting providers name.

Could be a provider issue, or they could just be wicked dense.

Their security team doesn't handle this, though- the website has no secrets, only lies- it's all big PR front. That cert is probably managed by the secretary.

This isn't even the White House's fault. The blame is on Akamai Services.
