12 Million Honey Bees killed because of an accident!

Topic started on 16-12-2004 @ 01:14 PM by jeeze louise

Bees are brought in as help to pollinate crops, but when this truck was on its way to California the truck flipped and dumped the bees and gallons of honey onto the highway.

LAS VEGAS - A truck carrying 12 million honeybees hit a wall on a highway ramp, dumping its load across the pavement shortly before the evening rush hour.

www.msnbc.msn.com...

The truck was carrying 480 bee colonies, each with 25,000 insects, to California to pollinate the state’s almond crop.

Ok I am sorry about the truck flipping over, but why kill the bees? They said it would cost too much money and take too much time so they killed them with water, why not just let them go free?

I agree that they should have just let the bees fly off and find a hive at a new location. But it is all about the money. They didnt want to let the bees go, so they tried to catch them. That didnt work because of economic reasons, so they drowned them with a fire hose. If its any consolation, I would be willing to bet that a couple hundred thousand of those bees made it to saftey befor the rest were drowned.

Apparently man has gotten so haughty he believes a honeybee can no longer do its job correctly in the natural way. We must contain them else they do some kind of nefarious pollenation deed.

piffle.

I guess cause the people who killed the bees are just a bunch of meanies, couldn't have anything to do with any of the surrounding towns not wanting 12 million bees running loose in their neighborhoods. And 12 million bees, thats not going to disrupte any ecosystems right?

That is absolutely fan-friggin-tastic!!!

Now the California Almond Growers have reason to SUE LAS VEGAS for crop losses, and a reason not to ship any almond or even California foods products to Nevada.

Oh yeah, now California can build big casinos with all the trimmings and exclude that little town of criminals to the east.

I dont see how it would really disrupt the ecosystem, bees are part of it. They would likely disperse rather than "flock" together like some horror movie stinging folk to death. If you can provide an example of how they might "disrupt" the ecosystem id like to hear it.
