Yeah, ISIS has no chance against that base...if they were smart they'd run back to their caves.

Hi I wanted to ask you but can't seem to get ahold of you

Did Budapest memorandum mention protecting Ukraine from US sponsored coups and revolutions to install puppets

Nice attempt at baiting, however, I believe you are already participating in a couple threads that deal with your question.

Since this thread deals with,

Reports Claim ISIS Just Captured al-Asad Air Base

do you have a pertinent question?

On topic, CNN has this headline.

Tribal leader: Iraqi troops in Anbar province could 'collapse within hours'

300 Marines defending a fortified compound could likely withstand thousands of IS fighters. It's not like IS has airstrike capability, accurate artillery, tanks, etc.

IS does have accurate artillery and tanks, but not airstrike capability.

Except that the location of the airbase makes it nigh impossible to move tanks or artillery into place. IS may have those implements SOMEwhere but not in the middle of Iraq attacking an air base full of Marines.

All these statements about what IS simply can or cannot do, yet IS are using artillery to attack the air base - this source here, posted earlier confirming the attack by suicide bombers states as much.

According to reports, ISIS has been regularly shelling Ain al-Assad for the past couple days, but there have been no reports of damage from the shelling or the attempted bombing on Friday.

Now you're being semantical.

I specifically said "accurate artillery" in my original statement. The original dingdongs in Iraq tried to lob a few shells into bases all the time but they practically never hit anything because they have no clue how to aim their mortar tubes or rockets. IS are basically spraying and praying at a gigantic spread-out base with mortars. IF they do any damage, it will be pure luck.

Hold off "several thousand"? With no heavy weaponry? Hmmmm....

Yes, absolutely.

Assaulting a fortified position with ground troops will always lead to heavy casualties for those doing the assaulting.

Now add in the following:
-Compared to the Marines, IS are very poorly trained and even more poorly equipped.
-The Marines have air-support if they are under a serious threat.
-The Marines are able to see any attempted attacks occurring at night.
-The Marines have the advantage of aerial imagery from recon drones.
-The Marines are Marines. They have a pretty solid history in the realm of ass-kicking.

I know this might be a little off-topic, but I would really like to know, when exactly did American soldiers really defended American freedom or safety( WW 2 not included ) ?

That is EXACTLY what we were dong by fighting, and killing RADICAL ISLAMO-FASICTS.

Even though some people just can't bring themselves to admit it.

What they want is the very end of western society.

Convert or die, and if someone doesn't convert enough they still die.

ISIS and that ilk are what one would call the 'Puritans' of the 21st century.

What ever happened with exterminating Al Qaeda?

We thought we were winning. We killed a bunch of leaders and occupied Al Qaeda sympathizing countries and what happened? ISIS grew from Al Qaeda. A much worse organization with more presence than Al Qaeda.

We should not have any interests over there and our meddling is making the problem worse. Extermination through military force is NOT the right path and often breeds more extremism.

Why are people making out this would be some kind of counter insurgency fight or it would be hard to pick out targets because of civilians? If you are in a defensive position with a perimeter it's as simple a fight as there can be. Kill anyone trying to get in. Isis couldn't bring heavy weapons or armour to play because they wouldn't last two minutes under American air superiority.

This is just sensationalist crap.

300 Jarheads will dispatch of thousands of ISIS before ISIS even puts a dent into their number.

I'm not in the least worried, LOL.

The Marines are one branch of the US Military that you can count on doing damage in large quantities. They are bred for War.

They die just like the rest of us

That's the sad thing about it. They are bred for war? Perhaps they are. Good at what they do. But they are also young men, in the prime of their lives. So let's just put them in harms way again because some idiot in a suit thousands of miles from danger said so. It's pathetic.

They'll most likely be on call. The Marines will have a JTAC on the ground with them that will coordinate with the air units. They'll keep someone on station as much as possible and be on call. Depending on how serious the fighting is, it's probably going on right now.

Just remember that US Army 1ID HQ and 10th Mountain CAB are in the AO right now.

They have AH64s on station and there are also drones there. If they wanted to extract these guys they could.

They also just sent a dozen Hogs from DM as a part of the European security detachment that can be redeployed to the AO.

One thing to think about in all this is that around 25 ISIS went to a 100% suicide mission. We have yet to figure out why they have zero respect for life whether it is their own or any other.

This is what I find so creepy about this situation. They are about as non-emotional at cutting off the heads, burning people to death, stomping babies to death as they are at kill themselves on a suicide mission that has little chance to do much of anything.

All the more reason to give them what they want.

Those f'ers wanna die for their cause, for their religion, I say we oblige them and arrange the meeting between them and Allah.

His idiotic request seeks to LIMIT any future activity to Elite and airstrikes for 3 years.
MAYBE he should ask a PRIVATE from the Army who would have a superior grasp of strategy and tactics than any activist he now relies on or his sympathetic Muslim advisors.

The US should slip in another 1000 Marines and tell everyone they are pulling out the Marines.

I believe if ISIS though that the Marines were gone they would attack the base and try to over run it.

Big surprise for ISIS when they find they are part of a target rich environment.

Does Allah really want to claim that many morons.
