SCI/TECH: Scientists find new Indian monkey

The discovery of a previously unknown Macaque monkey has brought a great deal of excitment to the scientific community. The recent expeditions to the region in which it was found have provided discoveries of other large mammals which were unknown to the Indian sub-continent.



The world is getting smaller but nature still seems to provide us with the occassional surprise, and in a country so vastly populated you can only be amazed that a large primate could remain un-noticed for so long.

How it has remained undiscovered for so long brings me to wonder what other major discoveries on the same scale, if not bigger, have yet to be unearthed.

Recent expeditions into Arunachal Pradesh by WCS's Indian partners have also reported the leaf deer, the black barking deer, and the Chinese goral (an animal related to the goat), all species that were previously unknown from India.

Then we take the monkey from the article link it to the single whale found recently and we get evidence the Earth around us may still be evolving.
