Whoa.. That's my hometown..
I used to work near where this happened.
Chapel Hill of all places. I grew up not even knowing racism existed.

Media has people scared, the path to the darkside... I have to go to work like now, but if I hear anything or if any of my friends know any of the people involved I'll pass it on here.

Looks like some fuel for the religious crowd against atheists, as if there hasn't been enough killing in the name of atheism. He must not of had enough likes for his point of view I guess. Someone mentioned mental illness, I prefer evil.

IMO this is what happens when you remove religion and allow the government to dictate morality. Relativism is to blame where morality is discarded or when extremism erupts from any belief system. Sure, murder is unlawful, unless your the guys in power, what kind of example is that?

So when a religious person commits an act of violence, it's not because of their religion but if an Atheist does it, it's because they don't have god in their life?

Do you realize how hypocritical that sounds?

Which religion's code of morality should we use? How about the Bible?

Let's see what has to change...
-Men who shave their beard will receive the death penalty.
-Slaves who disobey their masters will receive the death penalty.
-Women who are raped as virgins will receive the death penalty.
-Anyone who is adulterous will receive the death penalty.
etc. etc. etc.

Morality is not based on religion, despite your personal beliefs.

Unfortunately, this story will fade fast from the headlines.
Sure...media outlets were salivating over the story when it first came out...

until they found his Facebook page:

Not only is the suspect a political progressive who loves Rachel Maddow and hates the tea party, he appears to hate all religions, too.

www.bizpacreview.com...

Move along...nothing to see...No right-wing, Gun-toting,Tea Party Christian, nut-job to see here.

So this is the only thread reporting the shooting ?

The victims were recently seen providing free dental & food to the homeless

Clearly a case of an individual suffering from some kind of mental illness that led him to kill these three innocent people.

R.I.P

The irony, I was just reading this:

If a Muslim shooting = Terrorism
If not a Muslim shooting = Mental Illness

I wonder whether the news agencies that spew hatred and Islamophobia will acknowledge their role in this heinous tragedy.

Atheism, don't believe in any gods. Anti-theism, wants to destroy all religion. Simplistic sure, but not all atheists fall under anti-theism. Most atheists I have met simply don't care what you believe, as long as you aren't trying to impose it on them.

My Point... Thank u..
Separate FAITH from Religion... And maybe, just maybe
the world could have a chance to COOL down...
EVERYONE should be alowed to belive in what ever
they want, AS LONG AS NO ELSE IS AFFECTED by
what you belive... And no im not talking about social
or society issues. Im talking PERSONAL belife...

So lets have a and let the dietys rest for a day or two...

They just had a press conference on this. The officer who was talking to the press said it was over a parking spot and he mentioned mental illness. They wanted to be sure they emphasized this was not over their religious beliefs.

Maybe the trial will show if this man has/had mental issues.

I think you may be on to something here.
Of course be prepared for the turds in the punch bowl to show up, and start trying to equivocate.

Exactly!
One does not necessarily need to have a problem with religion to not believe in it.

True. Many of us atheists are not anti-theists. We don't hate religion, we just have no use for it.

Right! I am only anti-religious belief in politics.

How someone chooses to live their life is their right. But, not the right to force it on others.

Of course, if it had been a Muslim who shot three members of an atheist family in their heads, "lone crazy guy" would not be the story, would it?

If we condemn people of their beliefs, and not their personal level of stupidity, we risk marginalizing those who also believe the same way but do good deeds. Sift through the media spin BS buzzwords, the trite categorizations, the broad paint-brushing and stare at the individual(s) responsible, lest you become just as guilty as this individual in making such a tragic and unreasonable error as assuming all people who label themselves the same way, act the same way. Stupidity.

Antitheism is not the same as atheism.

In case it matters.

I don't know if it does matter.

TV programmes liked by Hicks include The Atheist Experience, Criminal Minds and Friends, while he describes himself as a fan of Thomas Paine’s The Age of Reason and Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion.

Hicks’ pictures largely consist of images with text mocking religion and supporting atheism.
So if militant Anti-theists can be lumped in with atheists, surely you wouldn't mind lumping islamic extremists with muslims?

...Does that mean I count? Maybe that post was prophetic. Oooooo... (Obviously a joke on my name, I'm no militant.)

Sorry I meant lone-wolf nutjob...

Oh no, right the first time.

Can't edit the OP to explain ^^^this^^^ was a failed attempt at satirical dialogue.

Got your satire from the get go

This is so sad and senseless. And all over what?

Did you actually read the article?

He isn't just an anti-theist who believes in a deity outside of the known religions...

He's a God Delusion reading, atheism promoting lunatic who's favourite programme was about Atheism.

& I didn't lump him in with any atheists.

But he is one, clearly. Albeit anti-theism atheist... Yes they exist.

@NetworkDude...

Parking space lol.

Sure...

So Friends was really the reason he did it.

After spending several hours watching Jennifer Aniston's horrible acting I'd be feeling murderous too.
