Oliver pointed out pharmaceutical companies spent more than $24 billion marketing to doctors in 2012. He also cited one report that found nine out of 10 big drugmakers spent more marketing than researching drugs, with some spending roughly twice as much on marketing as research.
like blaming the bar for getting you drunk.

Considering how much it cost to develop a drug, it is not unreasonable that marketing expenditures would exceed research and development. The company has to make their money back and marketing's job is to generate sales.

you only use a broad brush to point out such in an effort that supports corruption by big money.
there is more than one way to view things.
failed research is also a tax break so that creates a need to fail.

No, I just point out that when it can take a decade or more and hundreds, if not billions of dollars to create a wonder drug, pharmaceutical companies will want to recoup that investment. The profit motive is what drives companies to put up millions and billions of dollars to create these drugs. There are all kinds of financial risk involved.
Yes, it would be great if companies didn't have to worry about profit and they could do the research and give the drugs away for free while everyone lived together in harmony riding unicorns but that isn't how the real world works.
