Pope Francis to address U.S. Congress in September

John Boehner has announced that Pope Francis will be addressing the Joint Session of Congress this September. He will be the first Pope ever to address the US Congress!

This should be interesting! I wonder if he'll give them a HOLY scolding? I would LOVE to see that! LOL

I wonder how Ted Cruz will respond?

I wonder if Pelosi is gonna snub the Pope like she is going to Netanyahu.

Probably not.

Dunno how I feel about the Pope addressing the US congress. No Pope will ever be American.

The rationale behind that is the US would have too much power as they have said.

So much for that separation of church, and state.

Probably not. Pelosi IS a Catholic, after all.

I don't think any head of a religion should be addressing congress. But at the same time, the pope IS the head of a country ... Vatican City is a country ... so there is a bit of a cross over in duties that have to be accounted for.

In the end .. I'd rather he didn't address congress.

I'd rather have Louis Farrakhan address Congress. That way we know it really is just a Dog-n-Pony show...

But the Pope...slippery slope right there.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I thought government was her religion, and congress was her church.

Well, first thing's first:

Did someone ask Obama's permission to let the Pope come? If not, he's going to punish the Vatican I'm sure.

I watched an interesting documentary on the history of the Jesuits and their role in early American History. I was shocked to learn that certain people thought they were behind Lincolns assassination. Thomas Jefferson even wrote about the Jesuits and the evil agenda they have.

I dont trust this JESUIT pope. But, I never trusted any pope. Maybe he is trying to reestablish those early ties. Some of his views are alienating the American Catholics. This could be a bid to pull everyone back under his Papal Control. It seems to me that he is on one hand undermining staunch doctorn to pull in the masses, while trying to keep control of what he already has.

I think the popes agenda is to bring all the grandchildren (all other "reformed" churches) back into the fold of the Catholic Hierarchy. Ive seen where he addressed the Holy Rollers (Kenneth Copland) and his message was, "we are all family", now come back to the church. I was shocked by the welcome and praise by the Holy Rollers.

www.youtube.com...

PS. if your catholic, sorry if I offended. Please dont waste a bunch of space yelling at me, because I think the Papacy is only about money, control and power. And if their is an earthly throne of Satan, then the pope sits on it.

The speech should be a humdinger and a message to America and its leaders. Boehner may be the one bitten on the backside by this invitation. Obama will have to attend, I'd think, and would want to. Much of the nation will be watching it live (cable news will all show it, of course, and you'd think that the three 'major' networks would carry it), so he should have one of the largest audiences in U.S. history (unless it a daytime speech, hopefully it's an evening appearance). I'd love to be in that room.

St. Francis (let me be the first or sevenhundreththousand to call him that) may give one of the greatest speeches in Congressional history at this event. Epic tales will be written of it in centuries to come, and more than likely there will be non-literal fireworks. Something to look forward to.

I think you're over-hyping this a tad.

Of course Pelosi will attend - and no, she is NOT Catholic - she claims to be Catholic, but acts in direct opposition to the Church. Everything that creature does is politically motivated, and I am sure she will glam all over a photo op with the Pope.

I expect this pope will chastise Americans for not being socialist enough, while dancing around the touchy, yet glaringly obvious abominations prized and trumpeted by the political left.

Then the leftist media will fawn and gush over his new freshness and welcoming demeanor, and then express their tacit disappointment that he did change Church teaching and publicly wed Barney Frank and Al Franken.

Maybe. But I would think Francis will see this as one of his few appearances on a huge world stage, and may be "moved by God" to really let loose some zingers. It just feels like it'll be a memorable speech, and may be watched by billions world wide (or at least a few folks in the corner pub). Hottest ticket in town though, gotta give it that. I wonder if Boehner will introduce him (probably), and hopefully he lays off the sauce that day.

I was nominally raised a Catholic but consider myself Agnostic.....and being British I'm sure I'll get told its none of my business, but.....

Pope Francis is causing quite a stir at the moment.
He's trying to drive through much needed reform in The Catholic Church despite meeting resistance from The Curia and other powerful elements within its senior ranks.

Personally I can't see what harm he can do by addressing Congress and perhaps it will be good to show him some sort of support in his fight against The Catholic Church's excesses and skulduggery.
