No doubt...

But the whole argument was based on whether it is Islamic Culture or Middle Eastern/African Culture...

I know you will understand the difference & the point I was establishing.

It is obligatory to give bayyah to the caliph and obey him... so there is that. The only difference of opinion is whether he can be caliph for the Sunni's without consensus.. and the first caliph had no consensus because the family of the prophet wasn't there - they were busy burying the prophet when a small select meeting took place which announced a caliph after they alone decided..so.. there is that also..

Yazid was a horrible caliph, so was Muawiyah and others, yet the Sunni accept them all as proper caliphs... being a bad caliph does not mean much in Sunni schools of thought.

Again, no doubt.

But let's be honest the last "true" Caliphate was the Ottoman...

Which was many years ago, going by today's standards, I don't see anything like that occuring.

I'm not saying History can't repeat itself...
But with modernisation, even if only minor modernisation in some parts of the Middle East, & admittedly very little in Africa, that will most probably be a deciding factor on whether people go backwards to putting the Ummah in the control of one man if they're not fully scrutinised and elected.

& ISIS's Caliphate without consensus do claim to be Sunni, so there is that

The first caliph also had no consensus and he was Sunni too...
