Sounds like they are trying to get people to watch more TV! With approval ratings at an all time low, they need to shape your brain more than ever.

I did not even watch the superbowl. Every year you see how the halftime show is ALL ILLUMINATI... It wouldnt suprise me if thats how they manipulated people...

Think about that one.. The NFL is a tax free organization, The superbowl is probably the most watched program in the entire western hemisphere.

Food for thought.....

The most watched programme in the western world? Not even close!!

This year's Super Bowl has an estimated global viewing figures of less than 200 million.

The biggest premiership match of the year, Chelsea versus Manchester City on Saturday evening attracted 650 million globally. There's some work to be done, if it's ever to become the most watched programme in the western world.

Again...I'm saying that a big problem with society is the fact that the movie and TV industry HAS this power. To shape peoples' world. To do their thinking for them. You mention it can be biased. Really? I think that's a bit of an understatement.

People who allow someone else to do their thinking for them will do so with or without TV and movies.

Maybe TV should be regulated to only brainwash people with messages that are good for society (?)

Oh wait... people have differing views on that.

What's your point again?

TV doesn't influence anyone, it just pats self serving liberals on the back and provides bias confirmation for them all.

The theme here is that the movie and TV industry has the power to shape people's understanding of issues. Sure, it can be biased, but... caveat emptor.

Successful TV shows mock society not shape it. Explain Archie Bunker and Seinfeld. Or in more recent times, Cartman and the gang of adult cartoon heads. They don't even have to put up with Homer Simpson becoming a depressed junky like that tigers blood ranting win winning winner anymore if they don't want to.

Now hardcore liberals like the Obamas' will view things backwards and see TV as a vehicle to shove their agenda, which you are unwilling to accept, down your throat. They inject successful token minorities in every TV family giving the impression the poor are really the middle class and the middle class are the evil rich bastards.

When people tire of that garbage they can turn on the reality shows that are anything but reality.

A true reality show would show a network of family and friends struggling on government handouts expressing their hatred of big gov as they live off the state. They would show them living in their world of big screen tvs, iphones and nike shoes complaining about how hard it is to get the next models without real jobs, which they cannot dare to get or they would have to pay for all of their food and daycare setting them back even further from acquiring their perceived necessities.

That sad reality is, TV indeed does shape the worldview of many people. Yes, most of here at ATS and those with higher IQs tend to look beyond the BS that is TV and come to our own conclusions, but look at the people who's entire belief system is shaped by Fox News, or MSNBC. Or Reality TV. Or American Idol (or any of it's fifty gajillion spinoffs).

I like to think that most of us on ATS here HAVE higher IQs.

(But you're right; it is sad that tv does shape the worldview, in a bad way.)

c'mon...there are several billion adult people on this earth, and probably half do not even have a TV, and to the half that do, another half do not have as many channels as most western countries. and the majority that do have it, simply use it for entertainment...so, out of all the people on this earth, maybe 50 to 90 million, scrutinize, and take seriously, what is on the boob tube. billions of people go about their own lives, influenced by their own localized society.

Television is one of the many social pyramid scheme multi-sensory interest activators...
as are:
art
books
cell phone
clothes
computers
internet
radio
shoes
video games
and some foods
These activators trigger different human interest for trend setting and purchasing with clothing-shoes-vehicles and even housing settings.
It has been observed how powerful and effective movies like Godfather-Scarface-Menace II Society and even some westerns have been on the nefarious activities of part of the population.
Add in some heavy metal/gangsta music encouraging heavy alcohol or drug abuse and you can begin to see how part of the population can become entranced subconsciously at youth stages usually to follow the Popular advertised activators.
This is turn supports financially, new car, clothing, shoe and jewelry trends. Which further support other social pyramid schemes associated with garment, jewelry and vehicle sales.
Not to mention how the sexual interest is raised in many youth and adults from data transmitted through some of the various interest activators provided in video - music and stories within some books.

So in many ways Mrs. Obama is correct tv shows are shaping the lives of many no matter how much its denied.

@ times 1 wonders WHY? with all the opportunity aren't these interest activators being used more to initiate intelligence within the populace...

Perhaps its financially associated.
