Neo I have been a member for some time, and in this time I have always respected your views on politics, but somewhere along the line I believe that you are completely blinded by your strong views and stance on whatever side of the fence you stand. Who can tell anymore? What is liberty if 99% of people are struggling to even enjoy life?

Where did it go wrong?

What did the side/party that you encourage do to help this great nation? Where are the benefits of this other mindset, the mindset that has been in office and had their chance to change things for the better for the last several decades?

Why has the people's interest been lost, not only by the Dems, but also the Repubs?

It seems to me that all is lost. We are damned if we do and damned if we don't. I honestly believe that hope has given way to greed. To have hope nowadays means to prosper, something that very few are fortunate to achieve.

I am the last person that thinks we need to give up more freedoms for life, liberty, and justice. But I gave come to realize, unlike yourself it seems, that greed is running this great country into the ground.

Money makes the laws, money makes the legislation, money makes the decisions that the rest of us have to live by.

The Congressman are going to spend, whether it be republican or democrats. That is the way it is. Until we all get so tired of it and people can no longer provide for their families, nothing will change. The same old partisan politics will be argued, blamed, washed, rinsed, and repeated.

The ignorance bestowed upon the mindset such as yours is quite frankly, a disease. You of all people should see this. But instead you will keep playing the partisan game and calling people trolls who do not agree with you.

Congress has been sold out a long time ago. Without revolutionary changes, there will be nothing but the same.

I am not trying to be disrespectful with my views, I am only trying to convey the message of the way I see things.

Get out and vote they/you/them say. It does not matter who is in office, it is welcome the new boss, same as the old boss.

We will see when the next presidential term comes. We will see how manh changes "help" the people, and we will also see how many things stay the same. Time is the only thing that will tell.

The problem I have here is that a lot of the infrastructure should be locally maintained at either the municipal or state level. It isn't the prerogative of the Feds to put your local sewer system back together or maintain a state highway or bridge. It isn't their job to build your local schools.

If your municipalities and states can't find the money to do this, then you need to be demanding accountability from them. Why have they squandered the money?

Also, the Feds proposed this program once early on in Obama's administration and it didn't do anything. Do you honestly expect this time to be any different? Do you know of anybody that actually got any work from the great shovel-ready stimulus? If the first one didn't work, then what will make this different?

We are currently taking in record tax revenues and still running trillion dollar budget deficits, so now we spend more? Where does the money come from?

It's not that our infractructure doesn't need repair, but we don't have the country in place that can financially do this at the moment. We just don't. It's not economically feasible.

$478 billion is a good start, but IMO it's not nearly enough to fix what's broke.

Furthermore, it's no reason to sign off on the Keystone poopline.

How dare you say that the "Economic stimulus plan didn't work?", We got half a mile of paved new road in my neck of the wooooooods!!!!!!!!!!!!! Misterrrrr!!!!!!!!!!! and 4 new Town signssssss, with a Big Bill board that said it was all paid under Obama stimulus plan

I bet the Billboard cost more than the 4 sings and half mile road pavement.

Obama need to get money to pay the illegal immigrants jobs so he can claim that amnesty is good because it helps the economy, when the bids goes to private contractors and they in turns contracts illegals to do the public works, it helps the contractors in keeping their pockets fat, plus the states get a cut too.

Yes yes Neo, sociallism is EVIL. Why invest in your country when we can just wait for corporations to help us?
Oh yeah, corporations left you to rot...

Better yet, let's wait for the money to trickle down...still waiting?

Socialism is a safe economy as long that the people working spend most of their wages in the same country.
Work American, buy American.

Oh, I guess you would rather have people dying in the street than having the opportunity to have jobs. I mean, you have a good job! Why can't everyone be cool like you?

It's too bad most people buy from corporations which have move most of their factories outside the country to evade taxes. Well, that's what happens with free markets and even faster if the people in power of the government help those already in power of wealth.

Yeah, lets let our bridges, roadways, and water systems all crumble into disrepair because fixing them takes money and we can't have the gov spending money on the country's health, now can we?

Do you really think economy will pick up at this point?

The money is pretty much fake and the people up top don't mind pumping more and more into the system because without the poor, the rich are nothing.

The poor rebel when they have nothing to lose, I don't think that's what they want...at least, not yet.

The money is going to end in the same fat pockets that it did with the Obama economic stimulus plan, how many people here in ATS got "stimulated" with that one, yeah I thought so, but I know how many illegals got jobs when the contractors were fighting for the bids, same crap another name.

Really they actually think that money is going to be spent on 'infrastructure'.

It is amazing that so many people go along with him.

Well put two and two together, the money goes to states, they offer the money for bids to private contractors that in turn can hired whatever they want to do the job, usually cheap labor when it comes to illegal immigrants (that is why most public workers in the field of constructions are immigrants) hired under the table so the contractors can pocket most of the money.

Interestingly the right to work act is now been pushed in congress under the umbrella of going against unions when it very well provide more protection to illegals immigrants that enjoy the US Employment discrimination law

Coincidental?

We all know who is going to benefit with this new appropriation of tax dollars.

I'm most likely not the smartest person on this thread, but I think a good start would be to bring most of our military home. Stop being world police. Concentrate on defending our borders and airspace. Stop giving billions in aid to countries that hate us. Stop rebuilding cities that we most likely destroyed to begin with.

Our country's infrastructure is becoming an embarrassment and 478 billion is a drop in the bucket of the true cost to fix it.

According to ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers), estimated investment needed for our infrastructure by 2020 is 3.6 TRILLION!!! Going on my past experience of any kind of estimate, you could probably double that figure. ASCE

Imagine the jobs that would be created if our country concentrated on infrastructure projects instead of blowing billions around the globe.

I agree,

But while you see the big picture here, many people will applaud the crumbs that the administration is trying to give away to states for "infrastructure" that we know very well where its going to end. It has nothing to do with stimulating the economy.

That's true we would have not accumulated $8 trillion dollars of debt if the economy was 'stimulated'.

Even the massive spending increase.

Even with the massive tax revenue increases.

They have been spending more.taxing more, and call it 'progress' !

Now they want to do it all over.

I would rather that the Obama scheme to collect $478 Billion in ~Wealth Transfer Tax~ from USA companies money earned outside the USA... than have him OK the ~IRA/401k Wealth Transfer Seizures~

the imperial government has Its' eyes on the estimated $2Trillion in off-shore earnings of USA businesses or else the estimated $7 Trillion in individual IRAs/401Ks/Roth Accts/ and potentially the LLCs acting as Managers for self-directed IRAs...
It seems he is opting to stick-it to the Corporations rather than the individual IRAs (for now)

you have to be aware that this attempt to seize off-shore revenues ~ is step one~
As the targeted revenue is generally taxed by other nations where the taxable sales took place...
those monies accrued by USA based Corporations is already taxed...It is not Pure Profits as we are led to believe

the scheme/tactic/first phase plan to Tax overseas monies....ostensibly for renewing infrastructure...
... That Reason sounds like a very worthwhile justification to upend existing TAX policies, and sounds reasonable enough for public support of the Idea can be hammered down-the-throats-of-the-masses by other Obama supporting Dems.

the real target is the eventual attack on the $7+ Trillion Private Retirement Savings/IRAs...likely after Obama leaves office....the 1/2 Trillion of Wealth Transfer from off-shore monies being taxed is just to set up the IRA Raid...
the $478 Billion will never see the-light-of-day~~~ that 1/2 Trillion is already spent or due for pensions/SS/Medicare/other entitlements...

If Obama wanted to rebuild the economy... then the Pipeline should not be vetoed... but reinvigorating the economy is the empty promise to rebuild the infrastructure....
hell fire, roads, interstates. railroad right-of-ways, bridges, are all getting sold to foreign companies to be turned into toll roads/bridges/etc. ???
just how will the seized off shore monies be spent on infrastructure that the community / or government does not own any more....

Is any of this getting clearer to anyone ?
its all a scam, a sting...a lie
prepare for a devastating reset if he can't seize that 1/2 Trillion from the USA companies off-shore earnings...

Forward !

Do you call yourself an American company? If you do then pay up or start calling yourself a foreign company.

Think you own me?

Or the fruits of my labor ?

Sure don't.

So now wanting a company to pay taxes is the same thing as slavery? I've seen you make some ignorant comparisons in this forum but this one takes the cake.
All companies use the American infrastructure to do their business So yes they should have to pay taxes to help to keep it up. I forgot who I'm talking a person that thinks companies should be able to do as they please and have more control over everything in America than the citizens do.

Now mind you this is on top of the already $ 787 billion dollars spent on 'shovel ready' bull snip.

.

Wonder if he will laugh at the failure of this new scheme like the last one.

As Montesquieu says:

Slavery, properly so called, is the establishment of a right which gives to one man such a power over another as renders him absolute master of his life and fortune

Yep

Just because you hate rich people, and want your pound of flesh.

Doesn't make it right.

I notice the OP had no problem whatsoever with the Bush regime's 4 trillion- to 6 trillion dollar public's works program - in Iraq. 4 trillion- to 6 trillion dollar to destroy it, then another 60 billion to rebuild it. (source and source)

But suggest this country should spend it's money to keep it intact, and the wingnuts, as usual, flip out.
