We have entirely too many agencies with armed agents acting as though they're at war with drug running gangs/terrorists, when their real job is just investigation of possible violations of regulations by ordinary citizens.

WASHINGTON -- The first legislative act by Alaska's new senator, Dan Sullivan (R), turns out to be a gun control measure -- but one that will only affect federal agents.

Sullivan, who ousted Democratic Sen. Mark Begich last fall, is hoping to get a vote this week on an amendment to the Keystone XL pipeline bill that would ban police officers who work for the Environmental Protection Agency from carrying firearms.....

"We had in Chicken, Alaska, summer of 2013, a raid -- rifles, shotguns, body armor, helicopters -- for a potential Clean Water Act violation in our state," Sullivan said. "None were found. From our perspective, from my perspective, one of the things I got elected on was looking at the responsibilities of the federal government, and starting to limit those responsibilities."

This bill will need all the Republicans plus 6 Democrats to pass, so it is unlikely to do so.

In Victoria, Australia, the Egg Board were armed at one stage.

It is just so damn stupid.

If you are a federal employee and you need to go into a potentially dangerous situation, just call the police like everyone else.

Everyone wants a gun at the federal level and the Govt loves it.

Sounds like a smoke screen to me. It will probably not pass. The government wants to regulate you, not them.

They want to disarm you, not them. If they are turning in their guns its probably for more lethal ones.

Finally a senator with some sense. The EPA has no business carrying firearms. Hopefully Dan Sullivan will get some followers with this bill. However, I too doubt it would pass. Once government gets some power, it will never be given up so easily.

They want to disarm you,

They must not want peoples guns too bad, because paranoid gun owners have been parroting that statement for the last 4 years, and I still have mine.

I tend to agree with you--this bill will go nowhere.

That said, I greatly admire Dan Sullivan. At least there is ONE good man in congress.

Were the gun owners in Illinois, New York, and California paranoid when their rights were stripped from them? Just because you still have your firearms, does not mean the right for thousands of other American's are intact.

Then you are a rarity.

I'm also curious as to what all you had to go through to retain or obtain a firearm.

Well, first I went to the gun store. I picked out the one I wanted and gave the guy some money. After a few day waiting period, I went and picked up my gun.

Curious... I thought one had to have a FOID card in IL.

Seriously ?

ARMED climate police !

What's next ?

Invading countries to make them go green?

The US military new mission is climate change!

Gitmo's for eco terrorist's ?

The world citizen Act that allows the state to monitor all your energy usage ?

If you think the above is far fetched ?

Think again, and remember the last 15 years.

You do have to have a FOID card. 10 bucks and it's good for ten years.

I've got my CCW and plenty of firearms. What's so bad about Hellinois firearm laws?

I'm a redneck gun nut and am fine with our laws.

Okay, so Illinois is a bad example. It does not negate my point for New York and California. Just because your rights are intact, does not mean that others are. It also in no way makes them paranoid.

Also, this is off topic now. Back to the EPA...

I agree with ya. And as much as I hate Hellinois, I'm cool with our firearm laws.

The other poster was just gettin' a dig in. I ignore those types.

I also agree that the EPA does not need guns. Neither do the NOAA people. WTF does a weatherman need a gun for?
