Assult rifels should NOT be in the hands of civilians. they should only be in the hands of law enforcement and the military. what does a civiliand need a assult rifel for anyways? i fully support the second amendment or which ever one it is but an assult rifle is overkill.

clarify what you consider an "Assault Rifle".
The assault weapon ban of 1994 is just plain dumb in my opinion. If you look at the statistics, the currently banned firearms are almost never used to commit crimes. Now I do agree that there should be regulation of TRUE Assault rifles, by this I mean full auto or three shot burst ect. But, there has been a ban on civilian ownership of these since the 1930's.
The only thing the Clinton era Assault rifle ban accomplishes is the disarmament of law abiding citizens and ensures that the population will always be outgunned by the government.

Ah, one last thing, the old "No one needs these for anything but killing people." argument.
Bull, the AR-15 style rifle is the preferred long range target rifle for competition. Not many criminals will shell out $2000 US for one when they would rather have a 9mm in their pocket that they buy on the street for $100.

You say assault rifles should not be in the hands of civilians, don't understand why a civilian would need one and then you say you fully support the 2nd amendment. You have no clue about what the 2nd amendment protects.

The assault rifle should be in the hands of law enforcement? Do you understand what "law enforcement" is supposed to be in the united states? Do you understand the difference between peace officers and police officers?

Are you of the belief that the founding fathers made the 2nd amendment so that you can own sporting weapons?

Do you believe the 2nd amendment was so that you could own a weapon with which to protect your family from burglars?

Do you believe the Ted Kennedy nonsense that the 2nd amendment was the government telling the government it can own weapons for its military?

Just so you'll understand, the 2nd amendment was written insuring that the American citizen would have the means by wich it could take back its government from tyranny or arbitrary rule. This is not merely a freedom, KrazyIvan, this is an obligation, in order to preserve liberty. The ones who are in government and I are trying to pass legislature to disarm you are the ones you should understand are deserving of the most fear and scorn, and are the ones that need to be removed from government. 200 million citizens, each owning an "assault rifle" (created by the liberal media in order to demonize certain weapons), a case of ammunition and with knowledge of how to employ it, would be the most formidable force and all the reason in the world for the government to remember, we are the masters and they the servants.

You'd better learn about how your government ought to be, you'd better learn what the founding documents actually mean as the most dangerous thing to liberty is a bunch of ignorant citizens.
