I really struggled with this theme, I'll be honest. Valentine images without the "cheese" factor are few and far between.
this is a re-do from last years contest,... resized into a background and given a makeover.

I know what you mean with the difficulty of this contest. It's really hard to make something original around this theme because it usually ends up with hearts, fluffy things or cute animals.

Been going back and forth through my mind to come up with something but nothing is working. Contradictions seem to be the only angle that works for me (hence the love-star posted above yours) but that's it. From a "Here's Johnny" coming through the door with a bouquet to a Hannibal Lector with a Hello-kitty styled facemask asking for a kiss...nothing is coming out right. Avatar-fatique I guess...

We'll just have to soldier on I guess, something is bound to work!

It is difficult.. this is my idea.. not an official entry yet because I am still adding avatars and still have to create a banner to go with it.. but this is what I am working on





It was all I could come up with that was cool and just for ATS.. still adding avatars though..(plus I still have to delete the path around the hearts..)

Yeah...I saw you test-run that avi last night. Very cool!!

About the hearts:

If you take the letters on the hearts and set the fill-opacity (not the opacity!!) to 0 and in the layer-style (you know, double click on the layer) and add a bevel and emboss (direction should be down) you can really sink those letters into the hearts...

Real easy trick but adds a lot to the effect...

I use entirely online editing for stock photos. I don't use photoshop or anything like it. It's all Greek to me.

Thank you for the lesson...I always take notes while I am trying
to still learn the basics. It's been so long that I will have to go
watch tutorials for text. I forgot everything I learned last spring.

It's ALL going to be good once I am resettled & can get focused again.
I am so looking forward to that...

I believe that you are always one of the main contributors to these contests with strings of "up for grabs" and "freebies". They are always a huge source of inspiration and new ideas when I'm stuck (plus they fill up those compilations).

Keep up the good work!

What quality is concerned (due to resize or skills), I don't even look at that. Sure it's nice when an avatar looks "slick" but what counts for me is the idea behind a creation and the originality. Even with MSpaint somebody can create a winning avatar here, that's what I like about these contests..
