how the heck did these form?

How did these form? I put it in the freezer door.
It always happens to 1or2.

Possibly static electricity?

Put a camera in there and time lapse it.

Static is an odd hypothesis. Could be.

Do you put the tray in the freezer the same way in the same position every time?

If it is static electricity there may be something around it that would cause it(wire or other mechanisms or supports that would be in line and in proximity to the formations).

It's totally trivial, but it would intrigue me as well.

Putting your phone in the freezer won't damage it as long as you stick it in the microwave first to pre-warm it.
