Shocked they weren't told to stand down.

They weren't told to on 9/11 either. Lack of resources is not the same as a stand down.

depends on the book you read and interviews you watch

It also depends on your experience. I don't need to read books or listen to interviews to know about the alert force and their procedures, or even the Air Force in general.

Would that lack of resources have to do with what was going on that day as far as drills?

So Mineta is wrong?

Alert fighters don't take part in drills. Ever. They sit armed in shelters at the end of the runway.

Lack of resources because there were seven bases with alert fighters ready to launch for all of the mainland US. Only two in the Northeast.

Even if there weren't exercises, by the time they could have armed and launched a response it would have been over.

Well, the alert fighters were airborne and over NYC just as UA175 hit, so kind of hard to argue they were stood down.

So Mineta is wrong then and all others in the room that day.

You do realize that Mineta was the Secretary of Transportation, and had no say over the military at all, right? However he could order a stand down of commercial operations.

You do realize I never said Mineta was something different, I am repeating what he said when He was in the same room as the VP. You say there was no stand down yet Mineta and others in that room said that Cheney made a stand down order. If that is incorrect then 1000's of people that do research is wrong. And some how people that were not in that room is right. The only info about "no stand down order was given" came from the VP months after everyone else all ready stated under oath there was.

If they were stood down then why were there alert fighters over NYC? If they were stood down they never would have launched, would they? We have the timeline of when both Otis and Langley launched, and it was fairly quickly. How does that fit a stand down?

You can get stand down orders mid flight yes? You can get Operation aboard mid operation yes?

And yet they responded to where they were supposed to, and more were launched after them to try to find other aircraft. The response is inconsistent with a stand down.

Too bad they went into holding over the ocean instead of heading to the city.

They went over the ocean so they could go supersonic and have little traffic to contend with. They held over the city.

I'm confused. Are we talking about bomb threats at ATL and airliners or are we talking about 9/11?

By the thread title and OP I THOUGHT this would be about something happening now, at ATL....
