Ok....so this has not garnered as much attention as I thought it would, but NBC has recently released a new media outlet specifically for Blacks. I know this is likely going to be a big fail of a channel as news is news, regardless of race/religion/whatever. So why create an new organization within NBC specifically for the black community?

Here is the letter from the NBCBLK editor:

NBCBLK covers stories by, for and about the black community. Our product is meant to elevate America's conversation about black identity, politics, and culture. We share positive, solution-based journalism and report on challenging issues that communities of color face today. NBCBLK taps NBC News journalists around the world to tell these stories, and we curate reports from NBC News platforms -- Nightly, Today Show, Dateline, and local affiliates among other NBC outlets.

We welcome your ideas, your feedback, and your perspective.

Anywho.....what gives? Why are media outlets seemingly trying to create even more of a divide with tactics like these?

Comcast owns NBC.

Follow the money.

Why do you think MSNBC is like a branch of the Democratic party?

How will Comcast benefit if the Democrats write the laws?

Perhaps it's a reaction to the hate speech coming from the likes of Rush, Hannity, Coulter, Levin, Beck, Ingram and Savage and the rest of the AM radio jocks trying to divide America. And it is about the money...Division and hate attracts a sizable demographic. Just platforms to hang advertising on. Targeted, scripted, produced and broadcast with a sound business model, proven by the ratings.

There are liberal channels, conservative channels, Latino channels, women's channels, all geared toward their demographics. Why not one geared toward black people? I doubt media outlets are trying to create division. More likely, they're trying to create more money...

BET is a thing, I hope people know that.

I'm surprised it took a news agency this long to start pandering to one specific race or demographic outside of anchors and special programming blocks.

Not surprised.

Is Al Sharpton running it?

Oh, yeah. There's Christian News, too. And children's news. Do they create division?

Why is this seen as "creating division"? Could it be that that is all in your mind? There's room enough for us all!

How can a color deserve it's own separate culture? These people don't speak any African languages, practice any dissimilar African religions...what exactly is so ethnic and cultural about being a dark skin color? My only run ins with "African" Americans in the USA were negative...one time robbed at gunpoint with my mom and dad, the other time was an armed home invasion where two black guys were pretending to sell books for a charity then whipped out a sawed off from the bag of books they were carrying. Trust me you don't want to know any further opinions of mine on this issue.

Well.....what I really don't get is the statement made by the editor. She says:

Our product is meant to elevate America's conversation about black identity, politics, and culture.

Yet this is a media outlet specifically for black people, so how is this going to elevate any conversation in America except for those that are wondering why a specific outlet for this? Is the goal to have other races decide they too would like to read about black only issues on a black only media outlet?

I just don't get this move at all....I understand BET is big, but if I want to watch a show on there I will watch a show on there, not because it is all black, but because it is good. Is this new outlet going to do anything actually different or are they really just breaking the news down to very small segments that are racially defined?

Simple.

By defining black "culture" the Democrats take 12% of the population and create a narrative that they are victims, and only the Democrats will save them from the bad guys.

Comcast. Follow the money.

I guess we'll see. I'm kind of curious about it and if it's good, I will check in with it, just as I do MSNBC, FOX, CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, and even CBN.

Why is it none of the others bother you, but this one does?

Never said they didn't bother me, but this one is popping up at a precarious time, that and NBC already has The Grio which is also geared towards blacks.

I just see these separations as causing more of a rift since they are alienating viewership immediately, yet stating their goal is to bring people together to understand a culture. Sorry, but I can't watch the news and understand a culture, it is kind of a personal thing where you have to be IN the culture or surrounded by it in order to understand it.

Then you certainly wouldn't be opposed to FOXWHT would you? A Fox news outlet focusing on issues and news pertaining specifically to white folks?

Oh wait, that would be called racism.

Wonder why it's acceptable if it's the other way around.

Just to note upfront that I am indifferent to the black news channel--I don't have cable or ant..anything we watch is either netflix or rented

I think this bothers some because all of the other news channels pander to all people..an all black channel is singled out..one thing BLACK...Kind of like the #blackpower shirts and #blackthisblackthat..imagine if we had #whitepower shirts? Even the hick channel (hunting and fishing) sometimes feature black fishermen bow hunters, etc..lol I also think it bothers because of all the separation as of late..It seems to me that they are hot and heavy on calling racism, all the while segregating themselves from everyone else. Maybe it's just me..but I feel like a lot of blacks are more racist than whites..I know I could name few...but oh, well...don't really care one way or the other..I just stick inside my little bubble anymore..the world is too hostile..I like it here in my own little home..If youre nice to me..ill be nice to you kind of thing..don't really care if youre purple with yellow polkadots..

That's already the reality at Fox..

So, that doesn't really make any sense.

Fox is most certainly a Conservative news network, but a whites only network? Far from it. Though, I do understand you were being sarcastic.

If you bother to look at the demographis...fox watchers are 80% white with 2% black. I wonder who those 2%ers are?

Usually white and 68 years old...a perfect deomographic to sell viagra, depends, dried survival food and ripoff gold to. Fear based advertising.
Solid business model, targeted ads, nice market share and profit.
