I find it interesting that viruses can be engineered to create various effects according to the desire of the designer kind of like hijacking evolution.

There are multiple benefical viruses out there that have been made for the good of our civilization, but I think that it may be the tip of the iceberg as to what can really be done.

In my opinion designing new viruses our civilization could essentially overcome any obsticle as far as health is concerned.

Not only could viruses help with basic health issues but could aid and augment other forms of life changing the form of life into giving it the desired augment.

So you could design your own personal viruses what are some things you would want them to do?

How do you think viruses could aid our civilization in a progressive and positive manner in the future times to come?

You could also look like the comic book version of Peter Parker, or pick your favorite Spiderman actor and look just like him lolz. . .

Not only that you could look 21 for the rest of your immortal life!

Just think with personalized viruses made by individual citizens any type could be made.

Cancer is immortal and lives forever. . .

Heres an idea a virus that keeps you young by copying cancer telomeres and replacing other telomeres to make you immortal.

Yes similar but very different, I think the powers that be have the public so scared of scientific evolution that the public now stone walls technology at every turn.

Its the classic "youll shoot your eye out kid" message that we see far to often to instill fear of progression into the masses.

We wont shoot our eyes out with the technology to control our own evolution.

Isn't this how "I am Legend" started out?

Viruses also mutate over time. What happens when a designer virus mutates?

Also, the technology needed to create designer viruses could just as easily be used for harm as it could for beneficial purposes. And the more prevalent it becomes, the greater the risk that some "eager beaver" will utilize it to create some really nasty bug that kills the entire population of the planet.

I thought I'd just throw that little bit of doom porn out there. Enjoy!

But in the "Christmas Story" movie, he did nearly shoot his eye out in the end.

I personally don't fear technological advancements. I fear the idiots who are in control of said technology.

However, I also wonder sometimes whether we are moving too quickly. In our haste to capitalize on the newest technological advancement, we frequently aren't taking into consideration all of the ramifications of that pursuit. Of course fear is unwarranted, by perhaps more caution is indicated.

Note in all those movies it was corporations that did that to people, not people that did that to themselves, this thread isnt about being under corporate control, its about what you would like to do if you had the ability to custom make your own viruses, which isnt that difficult.

Heres an idea for the youll shoot your eye out crowd, those who want to be under the corperate evolutionary plan we are currently under with GMO foods stay the course and dont even for a moment wish for your evolutionary freedom.

Now for the rest of people who actually have the desire to design thier own genes let them do that.

To each thier own, what might be right for some may not be right for all.

However I doubt if other people are becoming more beautiful glowing and immortal that anyone would just wish to be in the former catagory of corporate controlled evolution.

But to stay on topic I think the creation of suoer powers that mimic already existing powers in nature would be a good start. . .

Sorry, I missed the original point of the OP...

One theory that I subscribe to is what I refer to as Panspermia++. It's called Cosmic Ancestry by its proponents. Basically the thought is that in addition to abiogenesis, alternative DNA segments have arrived on Earth since the very beginning. These additional segments are in essence responsible for the evolution of higher species on this planet. Furthermore, these DNA segments are introduced by way of viruses.

I am also aware of a theory that indicates that the so called "junk" or non-coding DNA is a result of that viral DNA introduction, and can be activated and start coding for different characteristics based on evolutionary pressure.

If I were to wish for a form of directed evolution, I would choose a virus that improved the functioning of the brain. Perhaps a virus the reconfigures part of the brain to increase the size and bandwidth of the corpus callosum. A brain with a more efficient communication channel between the brain hemispheres may not only make us more intelligent, but might also enable such latent abilities as telepathy and psychokinesis.

I wonder if there might be a way to manipulate ones perception of time with a virus giving you more time to do things, and making you super fast when you wanted to be.
Heres one of the fastest insects:

Octopuses are masters of stealth, you would never have to change clothes again lol, not to mention look like anyone you wanted.

It would be cool to have a virus that changed in accordance to your desires like had a very flexible genetic matrix so to say so it could be multiple things rather than just one thing.

With virus manipulation we could be literaly be immortal, super intelligent, super healthy, and super strong.

So I dont see why our civilization doesnt make use of them for the good of all. . . .

These are very childish thoughts that humans have because they do not realize it has all been done before and it is not a way that can keep things going. Foolish wants.

Your post reminds me of the Christmas Story with everyone saying, "Youll shoot your eye out."

Fear has been instilled into people to stop civilization from achieving greater goals.

Using virus batteries could lead to a host of new technology applications think micro batteries for micro eletronics so small we cant even see them. Like nanobot motors and power plants FTW.

I personally find the idea has merit.

Unfortunately, so many thing can go wrong if the PTB develops it first and uses it as a weapon. I wrote a sci-fi short story about it, Escaping God.

But if the tech is developed with harmonious intent, then it has the potential to benefit the whole of mankind.
