The Terrorists Weapon of Mass Destruction YOU Are Touching RIGHT NOW
Hello again ATS!
Many years ago, a quiet afternoons peaceful silence was shattered as shots rang out just outside of the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. A
man named John Hinckley, Jr. had attempted to assassinate Ronald Reagan, the then President of the United States. The President was shot in the chest
and three others had been injured as well. One of them being then Presidential Press Secretary James Brady, the namesake of The Brady Bill.
This event was the culminating event in a long term series of events which included the assassinations of a sitting US President, a Presidential
Candidate, the first openly gay politician in the US, Civil Rights leaders, and many others. Lawmakers of the era had seen and survived many such
senseless attacks and were determined to put a stop to it.
During this period of time the term "assault weapon" came into vogue.
It was also during this period that the United States was funneling money into Pakistan to assist the "Freedom fighters" - the muhajadeen - in their
war against Russian tyranny and invasion.
A number of years later the man who nearly became President on that quiet morning of the shooting, now did sit in the chair of the Chief Executive
when he ordered American planes to begin a campaign of "Shock and awe" against the nation of Iraq.
In 2001 much of the above came home to roost as we all watched the horrific sight of two buildings falling. Even though a previous attempt had been
made upon those buildings, and the nightly news often showed us images of bombings from places far away, like Israel. Suddenly the word "terrorist"
entered our collective and daily lexicon.
This tipped the first domino in a period of fourteen years of change for the western world. During that time our police have become militarized, our
laws have become increasingly restrictive and in conflict with both the Constitution of our nation and the spirit which it represents and our
tolerance for intrusions, previously unfathomable, has now become commonplace and rote. In the name of safety we have forsaken our core values and
have been forced to place our trust in mechanisms and agencies that we can barely keep track of yet monitor. There are now so many regulatory and law
enforcement agencies in the US that one actually has to go to multiple sources just to find the majority of them. It stands to reason, at this point,
that there are also actors and entities extant that we are not aware of due to the ever present steel curtain of
national security.
Terrorism is now part of our lives, daily. Many of us live in some level of fear or concern that we might be perceived as "suspicious" - that we
might trigger some code seeking algorythm in Utah and end up "on the radar". Twenty years ago these thoughts were the sole domain of the paranoid
delusional. Today they are legitimate worries for everyone who uses digital media. And that is 100% of those reading these words.
Over the years we've been conditioned to think "terrorist" simply from certain imagery or phrases...
Hijack, AK-47, bomb, dirty bomb, Jihad
etc. - things that we associate negatively for $2000.00 Alex...
For many months I have publicly been trying to tie many thoughts together into a cohesive theory - and I think I have finally succeeded. The last
piece of the puzzle, for me was
this thread by ATS member Flyersfan discussing a
Cyberattack upon France that is currently being blamed upon "Islamic hackers"
Yeah, you know those Islamic hackers we've heard so much about. The ones that we've watched Seal teams pass by as they went from village to village
clearing out the mud huts. THOSE Islamic hackers. The ones we've been discussing for years and years. ( Ahem... ORWELL ).
And it hit me. I cannot currently go purchase a fully automatic AK-47 because that is what
terrorists use. There is no need for such a device
except
terrorism. That is what we are told.
The copy of The Anarchists Cookbook I had a few decades back is now considered munitions and
terrorist paraphenalia that could get me locked up
for a very, very long time if I still possessed it. After all, knowing how to improvise field combat devices is nothing a law abiding person would
care to know - only dirty, dirty
terrorists.
The Government keeps arguing against encryption. Why? Well it certaintly cannot be due to the fact that we might want our more intimate conversations
or pictures to be safe - NOPE - it's a tool of
terrorism existing only to keep Big Brother from being able to see the details of your horrible
plot. That is the only rational answer, right? Well so says certain law enforcement entities.
And now we're here...
What has been the common denominator in just about every tragedy over the past two to three years, domestic and abroad - man-made and natural? I'll
give you a clue - you're using it right now. You're reading it. The Internet. Even through the rampant divide and conquer tactics employed and the
massive gulf between ideologies that has been created, nurtured, and manipulated - we still all share this one thing. The Internet.it is the last
bastion of commonality. It is, ironically, the last honest mechanism available to the masses. The last place where one can get multiple views of the
same idea.
It is documented fact and well known that the US Government - as did others - went into the business of forum spying and manipulating a year or two
back ( they've been here the whole time, but just didn't have enough popular opinion on their side to openly admit it until recently - cuz terror
you know ). They came, at first, to watch and to make sure nobody crossed any lines by posting an intent to do bad things. Then they realized that
they could provoke people into admitting to wanting to do bad things or into actually doing them...
And then they realized that they could literally alter our perception of
everything. They could make us believe the absurd and utterly rebuke
the woefully obvious.
Shortly after that the prohibition upon domestic propaganda was lifted and it was on like Donkey Kong. A whole new level of the game opened up. A
brave new world, if you will. Farenheit 451 on a digital level.Suddenly the news began reporting on hacker groups and now they were shutting down
websites left and right - never mind the fact that the US Government had just previously gone on the largest hacker recruiting drive in history and
had built what amounts to the most powerful surveillance and hacking system in our hemisphere. Nope. Do NOT look at that stuff - remember, remember,
blame the fifth of November...
Then came a series of so-called "whistleblowers" who told us what we already knew - that we were being tracked by Uncle Sam and by some HUGE
companies.
Then came admissions, excuses, additions to the spying programs and Cyberwarfare capabilities...
And through it all the attacks become more and more frequent, more and more powerful, and more and more commonplace.
