So I have been watching Lewis Black talk about various social issues.

He talks about the sillyness of black friday.
How ludicrous it is Americans dont have good healthcare.
The failings of the education system.
Problems with exceptionalism and our view of the world around us.

I like what his basic message is, and how he lays out common sense in his comedy.
Alot of what he says is to me 100% spot on.

What say you ATS what do you think of some of these issues?

Always been one of my favorite comedians. I saw him a few years ago locally and he was awesome. I think he is so funny because he points out the so blatantly obvious. He does make a good deal of sense.

Thanks for posting that, but I'm talking about back in the early 60s like from Bay of Pigs on. That's when they told us to hide under our desks at school. We had these drills where we'd practice it. It made no sense even to a little kid but we of course trusted our authority figures back then...

Nope I was around for the seventies not the sixties, however we got the fear pumped into us that the russians were going to blow the ## out of us too. . . .

May have skipped a few generations as the various ##hats that continually post how we could win a nuclear war, some people are just stupid. . . .

I do like how he goes into war and comedy:

Oh yea, don't get me wrong, I know the 70s were still full of paranoia of the Russian bombs and all! I just don't remember hiding under desks then, but I was in high school so I don't know if they did it there. Plus, I was just too busy playing guitar and smoking cigarettes of all flavors...

That is a great video! I've seen that bit before but it never gets old! Thanks!

He is a funny comedian; but just as I view other comedians such as George Carlin -- they are not my definitive notion of political nor social insight. I love all comedians (even the bad ones) to death. They bring light to a dark, dark world. It doesn't mean they are right or profound.

Thanks for the memories. LOL I lived on base, so I had to walk past the siren to go home. On half days, while walking past, that monster would go off just as I was walking past and give me a monster of a heart attack! LOL It was so massively loud up close, you thought you were going to die just from the noise level. I, too, never understood the hiding under your desk, but didn't want to get in trouble so I did it. I also used to have a shirt given to us by the base to wear to piss off protestors that had a mushroom cloud on it, a bunch of people running from it, and under it, it said, "Don't run, you'll only die tired." It was given to almost all the kids on base.

I like what he says about our American exceptionalism, like we are the best people on the face of the earth. I believe all people are equal, reguardless of what country they live in.
