www.printworks-online.com...

I thought this was a fascinating article that if not for the insight into the humble starts of the printing press and the book, the photos of the earliest printing presses are worth the glimpse. The sheer handiwork of the metal-smithing to create this machine in those days could be considered a feat in and of itself in terms of labor and craftsmanship. A perfect marriage of that handiwork and the mindwork needed to author a book worthy of printing in those days really does overshadow the cheapness and commonness of modern books and authors. Nowadays there's more trash than masterworks. In those medieval times books were a rarity that only few nobles here and there owned and were educated enough to know how to read them.
