I was thinking about bygone eras.

I think there was something fun about every era I was exposed to - the 50's, the 60's, the 70's, the 80's, the 90's ..

..then bam!

I don't know what happened.. everything sucks.

something went wrong.

I'm not sure what happened.

But there seems to be something wrong with some of the personalities today.. not sure I can put my finger on it.

People are very reserved nowadays ..and kinda boring.

There is no creativity.

Maybe everyone needs to start doing hallucinogens again..

People got more greedy then they already are... As the generations went by technology increased, and we became more and more isolated...

For the past few decades we have grown into a society that Lives IN a Box.... We no longer care about others, and the needs of the self overcame the needs of others...

in the past we would sit around the fire and tell stories, socialise and enjoy the wonders of life and nature...

now we stare at boxes.... Even now you're staring at a box while you read this

Sound about right?

Yup Akragon...sounds right to me.

I'm young enough to miss socializing, and old enough to remember it.

Well, my friend went away to organise the construction of a gigantic, possibly animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex, and her leaving party was on Saturday. For a leaving present, I got her a double vodka and coke, and a picture of a skull that I drew when I was bored one night.

There is plenty of creativity about, just very little real freedom anymore. Creativity is inspired by freedom, and because western societies pay only lip service to that sort of thing, despite touting them as being inherent to the ideals of their societies, perhaps that is why there is a perceived drain in creativity. Perhaps the only creativity that is survivable now, is the small sort, that passes people by without even registering on their radar?

In these bygone eras, people still worked hard, and life was tough, ..but there was something to look forward to.. and something interesting happening in the culture.

Wow, thats a great point Akragon.

People used to socialize back in the day - face to face, and gather together.

I remember walking outside as a kid, and on every section of the block are kids playing outside.. all sorts of games; Ringolevio, Red Light Green Light, Freeze Tag, Hopscotch, skellzies.. people with homemade go karts, Big Wheels.. Stickball.. there was always something you can get into or you can just go and explore the neighborhood with your friends.

I see some of my friends with kids, and their kids stay home most of the day watching TV or playing video games.. sad.

Also I think this whole 9-11 thing.. followed by what is going on, has traumatized the whole world.

People are just snapping out of it now.

On the other hand, you had the Vietnam war in the mid 50's, all the way to the 70's, but I don't think the psychological effects were quite as devastating.

Birds of a feather flock together. You need to hang out with people that are better than you to get better. I am the most pessimistic person I know. I hang out with people who have a brighter outlook on life and it does rub off on me. I'm still working on it. It's the yin and yang in me or I might be bi-polar (joking). I always felt there was a balance in all things.

And from around the time - sometime after the bombing of Iraq - many people have developed an air of arrogance, or a feeling of being superior or privileged.

And kids are enjoying shooting and killing each other in virtual space..

Not the most encouraging atmosphere for a friendly or amiable world.

Arrogance usually creates it own reward, loneliness. I'm not sticking around anyone who is. Pride comes before the fall. We all do it sometimes. The ones who do it all day every day, I can't deal with so I disassociate with them.

If you think something sucks do something about it. If not ignore it and don't contribute to numbers.

Unless, of course, you happened to be one of the people who went to Vietnam & got involved in the fighting over there.
