Oh it surely will. Somewhere it will surface as a political excuse for enhanced surveillance. The general public is unaware of most of the specifics of it all beyond "terror is bad". They barely know what the NSA is, yet alone what Carnivore, Echelon, Einstein and Tempest are ( or were ) much less what they do.

Selling the public on domestic spying is as easy as selling a lone teenager a lemon for their first car.

Ah, in retrospect, look where we are now.
Did the NSA stop at France's request last goround?
