I can't abide clever kids that think they know it all making the smaller ones scared to speak up, I'm good now but thank you and to you too Olaru12.

When a newer member makes a post or asks a question why is it deemed clever to ridicule them?

No matter how clever, if its ridicule its not okay.

Why is it all of a sudden ok to ignore the OP and simply force your own view into a thread over and over again?

I've done that. If its out of line mods will address it with thread drift post removals and or warnings.

At which point did it become ok to personally insult those that disagree with you?

Thats never okay, if you see it hammer down. You can defend the poster in the thread or click on the little green man at the bottom of avatars and hit "alert" in the drop down menu. Thats the quickest route to on duty staff. Mods are always here but also welcome the help identifying poor behavior. Clicking on "alert" in the members avatar will alert staff to the post thats in question.

Well done sir. I hope the mods give you an applause for that post.

All agreed and as ever well said I just had a bit of a moment with too much of it and felt the need to remind the world that you should not need mods to decide whats right and wrong.

Peace.

When you get conflicting agendas with sock puppets, ideological retards, school kids, religious fanatics, tough guy wannabees, political tyrants, absolute fools,
nerd cakes, fanboys, senile old geezers, tons of drunks, gamer addicts, meth heads, more styles of posers than its able to count, mean old women and some people that are just bat **** crazy....

Really what do you expect. It's just entertainment and to turn it into anything else is folly. However sometimes you can encounter brilliance and creativity of some members that makes wading thru all the BS worthwhile.

Absolutely brilliant comment Olaru. You stated in two simple paragraphs what would of taken me a novel and several addendums to express.

Brilliant, simply brilliant.

There is of late, a lot of anger here right now and I know this kind of thread should really get 404'd as it does distract and not do the site good as a whole.

Generally speaking, for everyone on this site, there is at least one thing to be angry about. For many it is anger and frustration at what they perceive to be injustice. I am not exception to this. We all have our lines in the sand.

I would also like to addresss the habit of attacking newer members with "I have been here a while your so sad" comments that I am sure will not benifit the site as a whole.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about here.

Some things to consider:

Civility is mandatory on ATS. That said, there are thousands of members and millions of posts, they cannot police everything, nor should they be expected to. ATS relies heavily on people policing themselves. Generally a thicker skin must also be maintained. Even if the ATS staff was able to see every slight against a member it is not always appropriate to action those posts. Sometimes the OP, or the member in question has made his/her bed, and must therefore sleep in it. I've been in this position before a few times. Its not fun, but please keep in mind that sometimes, its ok to let the thread die, to admit you're wrong, to make a final point, and move on. No all fights are winnable, not all debates are legitimate, not all view points are valid.

I was going to address these questions separately but they follow a common thread.

As said above, courtesy and manners are mandatory on ATS. But I also pointed out that not all view points and ideas are valid. If you come to ATS and expect to not be challenged on what you believe to be true, spread the same tired BS that has been seen countless times before, and absolutely refuse to address the points made by others you will find yourself fighting an uphill battle.

ATS' core is that of a Conspiracy site. ATS is a matured online community having been around since the 1990s. So much has been seen, so many ideas presented, so many theories explored, and so many hoaxes and liars exposed for what and who they are that it has become intolerable, in many cases, to put up with a lot of crap.

On the other side of that is that some people are just jerks and trolls and don't care to address the points made. Some people just wanna brow beat others into either giving up or accepting a viewpoint. Those people, no matter what side of the debate they are on, are best ignored. Like so many before them, they will weed themselves out and eventually be banned.

To take an honest and well questioned post and turn into ones own personal agenda to be manipulated in whatever means a member deems viable to push there own agenda as opposed to discussing the point in question?

I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist. But one thing I have noticed is that issues often have more than one facet. Therefore one must be able to accept that some viewpoints may be strained, others may be valid-yet out of the box- and some still are simply ridiculous leaps of logic that can't be taken seriously. It's the nature of debating on the internet.

I thought the point of posting was to submit your idea/opinion/thought and then quickly run away because you're surely going to get ripped by multiple armchair geniuses....

no?

Well said - both you and nonspecific. I have noticed the same and it is the saddest thing.

But I have to say I worked in a job for the last 26 years dealing with the public. It used to be fun, energetic and I would say the last five years the amount of angry people is simply unbelievable. I would go home mentally drained, or in such a bad mood. And one can only try to be positive for so long before it doesn't work anymore. I have been verbally attacked for simply answering the phone in my bright and cheery, helpful voice. Forget about trying to do the job when it came to prices or even worse if there was a service issue. All of us in the room would have days when we would just break down.

I don't know what it is but it is ridiculous. We all have to interact together and people can't try to get along?

This site is a place to exchange ideas, bring attention to things and to debate. Debate doesn't mean argue and pick at people.

As I said as a newish member I have no issue with debate but the point I was trying to make was that if every new member with a view that is new to them but not to the world at large it mocked then they will not continue to question the world.

Not that hard to get in my own opinion? encourage without boosting your own self inflated underrated ego is easy, you just breath and lead someone else to a better path as opposed to getting a quick fix of "oh look at me I'm better than that person"

Well done for your barley two line comment.

I fully believe it is your kind of ignorant bollocks I was irritated with.

I bet you never come back after your embaressingly simple quip.

There we go popped in made what you thought was a clever comment and left.

you bring nothing and leave very little behind you sorry little person.

Oh and if you pop back in the morning your still absurd regardless of your clever reposte. Tit.

My spin?

Writing is a great method of information exchange but a lacking form of communication. Especially in a casual environment like an Internet message board where most people ( I assume ) type, essentially, exactly as if they were speaking. The problem is that when we speak body language, facial expressions, gestures, tone... all communicate as well. The nuances that indicate playfulness, joking, whit, sarcasm, a friendly poke, a double entendre, etc. All lost in the written medium, often leading to a statement being taken in a context far from the intended.

Add to that the fact that there are people like me here who sometimes post in a very blunt and short manner - and the recipe for misunderstanding is complete. A post that reads as though it were rude might well have been intended to simply be coy or innocently playful.

Trust me that happens a lot. I know because I have written a LOT of apology messages explaining that I did not mean to seem so terse but that my movie was coming on, or whatever the case was.

I try to give the benefit of the doubt always. I'm not always good at doing so, but I do try.

And then there are the deliberate trolls who come to wreak havoc and get their jollies by irking other people. They are few in number, but they do exist. And them? Who gives a damn about them anyway? They are best left unfed and ignored.

My top picks

1.You’re bored with nothing better to do.
2.Thought you were engaging in a intellectual conversation.
3. Temporary delusion that someone might actually give a chit about what you have to say.
