Yes I know before everybody brings on the hate and the few will say wonderfull things about how Ats is a melting pot of bubbles and joy and flufy penguins and please Mods on shift please bear with me on this and take a sip of tea, coffee or bourbon before you 404 this and just give me a moment to explain why I choose to say this.

There is of late, a lot of anger here right now and I know this kind of thread should really get 404'd as it does distract and not do the site good as a whole.

Please bear with me for a moment longer because if needed I will privatley show where the anger is. I would also like to addresss the habit of attacking newer members with "I have been here a while your so sad" comments that I am sure will not benifit the site as a whole.

When a newer member makes a post or asks a question why is it deemed clever to ridicule them?

Why is it all of a sudden ok to ignore the OP and simply force your own view into a thread over and over again?

At which point did it become ok to personally insult those that disagree with you?

To take an honest and well questioned post and turn into ones own personal agenda to be manipulated in whatever means a member deems viable to push there own agenda as opposed to discussing the point in question?

Once more I appologise as this post is not geared towards the site, the mods or the owners but to to the members that I would ask to think before posting.

I agree, we all know the wrong ones but most of the new guys get attacked for saying something that we may all have thought 5 years ago.

On a side note I think I must be the first member to ever start a thread I thought would get deleted and alert the mods myself to save time and still get a chance to replt to it?

Maybe you are being to sensitive..

As long as you don't spew absolute BS, verifiable dirty BS, people will discuss your topic.

Shills just don't last long here, they get found and slaughtered. If your not a shill then you have nothing to worry about.

On the whole yes I agree but there seemed to be a trend of hijacking any thread that roughly met someones opinion and making it something different.

Rant over as I said.

Theres know e in how bye the way

Some people
Like to talk over people at social functions .
And commandeer any topic an steer it towards there own experiances either true lies or exsagerated .
Same thing with forums blogs ect.
Some just love to hear there own voice or read the responces to there self perceived wisdom.

I try only talk or post on things I am interested in or have some knowlage of.
I have been a member for a while but am put of posting on many threads because of the superior attitude some commentaters have,
Ive been told that I dumb down the site because I ask A question that may be obvious to them what the answer Is.

Am also dyslexic and get tired of insults conserning my poor spelling an grammar,

Sometimes I get my spelling wrong because I had a major head accident a few years ago. I used to care now if anyone says anything I make them feel bad by mentioning it!

I am unsure as to the manner as I would go about doing such a thing.

That was not easy to say without saying...

I think you nailed it on the head nonspecific. I find myself replying less and less and even visiting less exactly because of what you stated. Not that it's directed at me but because I find some of the treatment of posters by other members offensive. I've only been here a year or so now and even I have noticed the increased lack of civility and open minded responses from a year ago. It's not just here though it seems to be pervasive all over the sites I frequent. I can't explain the increase in hostility but I certainly can see it.

Let's hope this is a passing phase and everyone can start to mellow out and get back to where we used to be.

Cheers
Mike

Some ATSers like to think they received a pedestal upon signing up, or because they have been here a long time, but don't let it bother you. Only the ignorant would ever stand on a pedestal! We are supposed to deny ignorance

Would you agree that it's not the site or general population though?

I would not want anyone to think I was complaining more asking everyone to be a little more open to those that do not have such a great understanding of the world of crazy questions?

And maybe a little more compassion to there fellow man/woman/hybrid grey time traveller?

ATS is a BIG site, with lots of members. It takes a while to get to know members, and for them to get to know you. New members are not by any means the only ones who are ridiculed. If you think that, then you haven't seen a handful of old timers have a go at each other. Give it time, you'll be just fine, as long as you don't take everything personal, and make an effort to learn ATS etiquette. Just be patient, and one day you'll be writing this post to someone else.

However, as was said above. You do need thick skin here. No matter how long you've been around.

When you get conflicting agendas with sock puppets, ideological retards, school kids, religious fanatics, tough guy wannabees, political tyrants, absolute fools,
nerd cakes, fanboys, senile old geezers, tons of drunks, gamer addicts, meth heads, more styles of posers than its able to count, mean old women and some people that are just bat **** crazy....

Really what do you expect. It's just entertainment and to turn it into anything else is folly. However sometimes you can encounter brilliance and creativity by some members that makes wading thru all the BS worthwhile.

There's nothing wrong with asking people to be a bit more civil. What is wrong is the fact you have to ask for it at all . Especially on a site such as this, a site that promotes an intellectual stimulus to analyze and discuss a wide range of topics in an intelligent and civil manner and to get members to ask questions. Remember there are no stupid questions only stupid answers and if someone wants to devalue a conversation by being rude and insensitive then that is upon them and not the fault of others. Such detractors should be ignored no matter how tempting it may be to post a witty retort or point out their ignorance, whatever.

If a person is so insecure or egotistical that they need to belittle or insult another then they have already lost any argument they could possibly put forth.

Like someone above said: Thicken up your skin and roll with the punches. Don't let the few bad apples ruin your experience and take comfort in knowing you are better than them.

Over the past 20 years I have researched pretty much everything involving truth seeking from the obviously true to the absolutley ridiculous.

I tend to find though that even somthing trivial and untrue can lead you to a tiny nugget of truth to add to the picture.

Quoted from you in your introduction thread.

Patience my friend, conspiracy and truth does not come easy. Alot of research is needed if you want to make a mark, not a bunch of trivial stuff. Not trying to be rude or anything, just being honest.
I research ALOT of various things daily, but I don't feel the need to share or discuss them until I am ready and it has been thoroughly vetted out and and something new . There have been so many past things that have been gone over so many times, it becomes almost numbing.
So with that I suggest to either get a thicker skin, or choose your battles wisely.
