Apologies for disagreeing, but I feel in this situation NYPD is exactly comparable to the Westboro Baptist Church. Protesting at a funeral...disgusting. They now have mine...disgust that is. NYPD took a page straight out of the Westboro play book. The boys in blue are fools for doing this.

Comparing this to Westboro Baptist Church is inaccurate. It's more like if a bunch of US soldiers turned their back on Obama at a soldiers funeral, after he publicly stated that he feels US soldiers are dangerous. To try to use this comparison is silly.

The fact is, Bill de Blasio is not only getting blowback from NYPD, he's getting it from all over the country.

The NYPD's perspective is that De Blasio threw them under the bus, implied they were racists, and directly contributed to the environment that led to the killings of the officers who were being buried.

Quite a few of your posts suggest what your stance on current events are.

Anyway, I will disagree with your assertions. The out of control heads of the police unions have stirred up quite a few police officers to act out against de Blasio. He didn't throw them under the bus. He voiced concerns that any parent would who has a male teenaged child of color in America would. Maybe he should have been more discreet about it but nothing about his comment was off-base or incorrect.

Let's be real, the good ol boy network in the NYPD has been after de Blasio since he was elected. This was just a perfect time for them to show their disrespect for him. Unfortunately, they chose an incorrect time to demonstrate their anger and hate towards him. Many of these disrespectful officers are good people but feel obligated to do as the union tells them to do or "suffer the consequences".

It's sad really but the real victims are the dead citizens and dead police officers, not the cry babies in blue.

Doing that would come with a court martial. Sounds fitting.

The NYPD is acting exactly like Westboro.

The blow back on NYPD and all officers will be horribly exacerbated by these actions. NYPD has utterly failed to lead by example and clean up their own ranks. Instead they demonstrate absolute disrespect to a fallen officer by making a funeral about their grievances and not a family's grief. They attempt to pass the blame to a Mayor for their own failings in the worst possible way.

No respect given. No respect received. The future will not be kind to the NYPD I would wager.

I would agree with you that after de Blasio publicly expressed that the NYPD was racist and dangerous, and two cops were summarily executed, it was an excellent time for NYPD to act out against him. You are dead on about that.

Any good parent talks to their kids about how to deal with police. Cops have guns, the power of arrest, and the duty to face down criminals, it's probably not a bad idea for any kid to have an awareness of how to interact with them. Black parents aren't the only parents that do this.

Since when does the mayor not control the police chief of his city? This a New York thing?

The officers widow asked the police to not protest.

A funeral is not the place to make political statements and/or protests. Disgusting display from the lot of them.

We should consider the possibility the guy is not NYPD but from another agency.

I'm sure the NYPD will be comforted knowing that you know better how they should feel than they do.

How do you know how the families felt about this?

Obviously selling untaxed cigarettes is not worthy of a death sentence, killing a breast feeding baby? Not even against the law, is it?

The protests in NY are about more than the Garner case. The overall anti police sentiments expressed by de Blasio, Holder and Obama are part of a larger movement to label cops as racists when they have dealings with a minority, specifically a black one. And the minority, no matter his actions, is always blameless in the eyes of the activists.

Garner had been arrested so many times. According to his wife, the cops knew him by sight and her as well. He hadn't had a job in years, according to her he was lazy. Wasn't used to work, she said. So this lazy scofflaw finally had a bad run in with the cops. Maybe he should've gotten a job and so the cops would leave him alone.

For law abiding, hard working people, the police just aren't much of a factor. Usually you don't mind seeing one.

Well if they know they are not racist, and none of those people have said that they were, they should not care and get offended. You have to choose to get offended right?

Racism exist, those in power can not stand up and say it doesn't when it clearly does.
In all walks of life, not just cops, but for cops to act like there is zero racism in their departments is just naive.

And to express doubt in police can not been seen as anti police rhetoric, police are not perfect and can be criticized with out it being this huge ordeal.
They are not immune to criticism, in fact they should be subject to a higher standard of it cause of the job and role they play in peoples every day life.
Feel free to not care about what they are doing cause it doesn't concern you, there is a pretty famous quote about a pretty infamous group of people that addresses that.

Obviously he is the only one looking at the mayor because the view at the end is just the streets.
