For anyone wanting alittle more information there is this.

earthquake.usgs.gov...

Ever since TA wrote that great thread on the Juan De Fuch, When I see an earthquake around there, I get a sick little flutter in my stomach.

If anyone is interested in reading it, let me know, I'm pretty sure that one I have archived.

there were a few more events scattered about outside the 184.0 km (114.3 mi.) N/S by 138.8 km (86.3 mi.) W/E area shown on the map, but I don't think they were directly related, this area has a lot of background seismicity most of the time, incl. M4's

Just wanted to add.

In the 1920's this area produced around 5 million barrels of oil a year.

Not sure about W10, I'm not putting it on until they sort out all the bugs.
I googled "Bing maps won't load data in Windows 10" but nothing related there.
there was a bug in W8 that someone created a fix for, but I never had to use it.

Yea, I think that's it.

My computer has been doing some odd things. Nothing really bad. It's just getting used to my schedule I guess. It keeps wanting to update stuff. I think if I keep going to your bing maps (which most have worked until today) it will get hint I want to look at that info. I could be wrong, maybe something else. I will be talking to my computer guru next week and I will ask him about it.

Reno, Nevada is having a swarm. It's near the same place as the 2008 Reno swarm, but not exactly. I don't have time at the moment, but I remember some there from earlier this year as well.

Perhaps more interesting, for those not in Reno, is the San Ramon quakes mentioned under "related stories"
www.ktvu.com...
I had a look at USGS but they only show 9 quakes for the previous 7 days mentioned.
Might have to search on ANSS to see them all. 220!

Oh just read the date
Oct24th
Doh!

Oh well

Did anyone spot this Swarm in Oct and mention it here?

edit on 1200000035635615 by muzzy because: (no reason given)

in answer to my own question crappikat mentioned it on 20th Oct a reply to: crappiekat and following page dreamfox posted a few of the quakes.

The thing with Swarms is you have to wait them out.
I did an ANSS search
here are the results;
catalog=ANSS
start_time=2015/10/01,00:00:00
end_time=2015/12/24,00:00:00
minimum_magnitude=0.0
maximum_magnitude=10
event_type=E
delta=0 km to 10 km from (37.770216,-121.983443)

The whole Swarm through to 19th Dec had 718 events.
heres a few maps Oct13-Dec19 (zooming in)

and a Timeline Graph

the main focus (activity) was as mentioned in the Fox article, 13-24th Oct, producing 439 events (double what was reported on the 24th)
heres a map of Oct13-24

and a decompressed Timeline Graph, same period

I too am watching this.

earthquake.usgs.gov...

This confuse's the crap out of me. Why do they say Nevada, when in fact these small quakes are in Oregon.

They are just south of this area.

www.nevadawilderness.org...

Thank you Muzzy, for joining this conversation. I know us American's get overly excited when quakes happen here. LOL!!!

No, they say Oregon, when in fact they are in Nevada.
its because they post the location in km to the nearest town, regardless of what state it is in.
Pretty stupid really.
BTW the link event has been deleted.
I see 57 on the USGS map for the last 7 days.
Quite an active area this last year.
This is the area I called Bald Mountain when I did the maps for it.
refer to: muzzy posted on Jan, 23 2015
and also to: muzzy Jan, 24 2015
and another flurry in Sept, refer to: muzzy Sep, 15 2015 (has timeline graphs)

that was back when I was experimenting with pin icons.

Don't be, the brain is allowed to malfunction during the holidays (as long as you are not driving at the time)
To confuse matters even more there is also a Bald Mountain in Area51 ( I seen it on the ATS search)
