Thank you for your input to the M6.5+ Significant Earthquakes Blog layout.
I have decided to show the M on the bigger Pie Chart, but with a Text breakdown of how many of each magnitude and what KT each magnitude is worth.
I will post that on each year ( with different counts of course). Its not too hard to do, using Excel and Notepad.
The Thumbnail is a smaller duplicate of the same Pie Chart but just has the magnitude of each segment over M7, for clarity.
I did 1996 as an example.

Hallo Muzzy,
I have been away for a while.
Now things seems to warm up, getting up to date.
Glad to see at least one of the sober persons still active.
What happened to Puttman? Not seen a post from him long time.
Take care. I will join talking when I am back up to speed with quakes again.

I wonder why the usgs is not reporting this one?

It doesn't normally take hours to show up on the usgs eq map.

Serious quake swarm around Rekjanes Peninsula in Iceland. Near Krísuvík volcano and town. Last time the volcano erupted in 14th century, but I don't think this is volcanic activity. But it will be interesting to see what happens next. Krísuvík eruptions are Hawaiian type, meaning calm eruptions without explosions.

en.vedur.is...

In 2011, Krisuvik had much stronger swarm, but it didn't result to eruption. There was about 400 earthquakes during that time.
www.jonfr.com...

Krísuvík area is also used for geothermal power production by pumping water into the volcano. This causes minor quakes, but look the magnitude 4 quake! I don't think it's possible by pumping water.

Krisuvik swarm seems to be over. It might have been pure tectonic activity. I will keep monitoring if new swarm starts. Magnitude 4 EQ is not very common in that area, they are usually much weaker.

Also saying no TSUNAMI threat with this one.

Curious to see if the Cali quakes hold or just false positives like the one before.

Well now there both gone.

They originally showed this as two events.

I guess we need to give them time to go thru the data.

Yea, Now that 5.5 in Cali has disappeared.

This could be an interesting Saturday.

thanks. So that shows USGS use the local source magnitude reading to start off.
JMA get 7.9Mw
www.hinet.bosai.go.jp...

IRIS are worth a look for the released energy watchers, 7.8Mwp/7.9Mw is pretty big, but
Me_bb = 8.28 and Me_hf = 8.66
pretty massive!

JMA get 6.3M for your aftershock

Dam again, its still not up and running. I expected 22:00 to be 10am NZST, it doesn't say which day, could be tomorrow. That will be too late, we are on a Public Holiday and I have the spare time to get some maps up. Their timing couldn't be worse. I hope they aren't going to do a Google and scrap the ability to load KMZ files.
Luckily I haven't done too many yet.
If they do that just leaves Bing on its own, its pretty basic, no user icons, just numbers.

I wonder why everything is getting dumbed down these days, there seems less and less opportunity for creativity.

I'll have to figure out how to put the Bing map in i-frames without the use of wiki.
At the moment all I can get is a link eg 1998

1998 map
